How to configure alternate production version in SAP IBP?

Hello Experts,

How can we achieve alternate production version in sap ibp? TS Optimizer supports product substitution & production in alternate resources, but how can we achieve a scenario - If leading production version is fully utilized, shift production to alternate production version in the same period?

Where can this alternate Source Id defined & other setup required to run this scenario in TS Optimizer?

Thank you in advance for your inputs.

Regards,

A.Basu

Hi,

the optimizer plans purely based on costs. As far as I understand it, you have two production sources S1 and S2 for the same output product.

To prioritize S1 over S2, the total costs for production via S1 must be less than the costs for S2. Typically you can achieve this via the PRODUCTIONCOSTRATE, e.g. set it to 1 for S1 and 10 for S2. But dependent on your scenario, other costs can also have an impact (e.g. to source the components).

With a proper cost setup, S1 will be used as long as possible (e.g. until an assigned resource is fully consumed), then the optimizer will switch to S2 resp. pre-production via S1. To prefer S2 over pre-production via S1, you probably have to set INVENTORYHOLDINGCOSTRATE on your output product.

Hope this answers your query. Substitution should not be required for your use-case.

Kind regards, Carsten

Hi Carsten,

Thank you for the response. I have tried this setup of S1 having cost of 1 & S2 having cost 10. This is working w.r.t PRODUCTIONCOSTRATE. The only downside is that we are not being able to use Global cost factors, which was the plan initially. The KF cost setup works fine for this scenario.

Thanks,

Hi Carsten,

Thanks for the response.
However, the optimizer behavior is not in question, I have previously worked on Alternate Scenarios with optimizer & it works fine, the way you explained.

The scenario here is: There are 2 Resources R1 & R2. Say R1 has max production capacity of 100 units & R2 has capacity of 500 units.

The requirement is to load both the resources simultaneously as per the demand & show overload on both the resources. The ask here is not to prioritize any resource or shift production in case of overload. Both R1 & R2 should be used for the same production version, Capacity utilization should be calculated.

We have license only for Unconstrained heuristics in the current landscape. @carsten_schumm

Hi, I don't get the new requirement exactly. Can't you just consume both resources in your production source?
