Okay, bit of a long story here.
We recently changed owners for the company I work for and there was a transition of our SAP system from the old owners to the new. It was kind of a nightmare but I was eventually able to get onto SAP on the computer but nobody here can sign on to any of the scan-guns. I keep getting conflicting answers from various IT people. One person said the password on the scan-gun should be the same as it is on the computer, but it doesn't work. And the kicker is, if you put the wrong password in three times, it locks you out! This is a Motorola scan-gun running some kind of warehouse management software on it (I think the name is just LP or something, I can't check as I'm at home right now). There used to be a way to instantly unlock your password with a link on the computer but since we changed companies the link no longer seems to work. Why can't any of the IT people just change my password on the scan-gun to something and then send me an email to watch they changed it to?? Are they confused and thinking it's the password on the computer? There is no administrator where I work so it's not as easy as just going to them and getting them to reset it. I'm at wits end. I left work today with still no way of signing on. Do you think my password is the same as the old one as the old company?
Any one else with experience using SAP with scan-gun software have any idea?

your company probably has a separate System for their SCM system running EWM “scan gun” software ( although there is “scan gun” functionality for for IM on S/4 or ERP systems). My guess is you need a password reset on the SCM system and you’re using your ERP login instead.

Not sure what all these acronyms mean.
Do you know if there's some way to password reset on the SCM system by doing it somewhere on the computer? There used to be a series of shortcuts on my home page at work where you could just click and unlock it (when you're locked out from doing the wrong password too many times) and then put in your old password on the scan-gun then immediately change it. There is a lot of disorganization at my job so all the links are tied to the old company's stuff so it no longer works, and the "IT" people are inept so I'm basically trying to learn how to do all this myself and I can't find any resources online.
SAP has tons of software and tons of ways to authenticate. You should have someone knowledgeable in your company’s setup to help you. If your company has a GRC system you could change it yourself easily. I know it’s not the answer you’re looking for but “it depends”. If your company has a support desk, ask for “SAP Security” or “SAP Basis”. Even who handles security is “it depends” if you’re a small private company your scenario will be very different from a large public company subject to Sarbanes Oxley regulations.
SAP’s main system is called S/4HANA or an older version that a lot of companies still run is called ERP. Within that system is software called IM (inventory management) and/or WM(Warehouse Management). These have scan gun software. If your company has a more complex need there is software called EWM(Extended Warehouse Management). It can be installed on the S/4HANA/ERP system but a lot of businesss install it on another SAP system called SCM. It has scan gun software too.
