How do design SAP APO to produce a month's forecast in the previous month?

Hello experts,

I have the following case. My supply chain is very ideal and with only one selling node and a production node. Transit time between the production plant and the selling depot is 1 day and the production lead time is 1 day. No safety stock is needed as there is (hypothetically) no fluctuations in the system. Can I maintain a parameter of safety stock of zero at depot and plant and still produce the forecast quantity for a month in the previous month? i.e. if a forecast of say 1000 units is needed in December, I need all the stocks to be produced by 30th of November. Can this be done without maintaining a safety stock of 30 days?

Hello,

You dont need a safety stock of 30 days, however you can use the safety days here.

If you define a safety time, the requirements in planning are brought forward on the time axis by the number of workdays you define .This does not change the actual requirements dates. However, as the requirements have technically been brought forward, receipts are created for the earlier dates.

You can define this in MRP 2 view of material master which can be transfer in SCM product master.

Safety stock method SZ "Safety Days' Supply from Location Product Master" in the location product master.

Dear Brahmankar,

Thank you so much for your response. I have tried and used the SZ criteria. My understanding is that it is also a method to define safety stock. SS can either be defined in absolute numbers OR in number of days. While absolute numbers do not change, safety days helps to get the safety stock get calibrated to the tune of forward forecast. But in principle, both the options are for maintaining safety stock.

In my scenario, I just need to pull in the fulfilment of the demand in the previous bucket (monthly).

Hello,

SZ safety stock method do not need any quantity as safety stock it is just as safety days.

MRP 2 view of material master define a safety time how many days you want to pull in.

Then run the planning heuristic and check the results.
