Forecast strategy 22 (2nd order exponential smoothing)

Hello,

We are using SCM release 702 and we try to reproduce forecast strategy 22. Which is based on second order exponential smoothing including trend calculation. The formulas provided by SAP are not correct or at least not complete see (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_apo700_ehp03_on_erp/helpdata/en/93/3cc95360267614e10000000a174cb4/conten...).

Does anyone have experience with this forecast strategy and know the right/ complete formulas?

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Dear both,

I started with an incident with a incident to update the documentation. The SAP answer was the standard answer that in relates to a consulting topic not an error... In the meantime we found it via debugging and indeed the formulas on the site are not complete. However that a trend is calculated the beta factor is not used but only the 2nd alpha.

kind regards,

Peter

Peter,

Hmm.  It seems odd that SAP would categorize simple documentation errors as a consulting issue.

No matter; as long as you have resolved your issue, that is the most important thing.

Peter,

Hmm.  I just reviewed the material found in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_smoothing.

I will be the first to admit that I do not have an advanced degree in statistics, but I don't see any problems with the formula contained in SAP online help.

Anyhow, if you believe that a formula contained in SAP online help is incomplete/incorrect, you should raise an incident with them.  Knowledge Base & Incidents | SAP Support Portal

The same forecast strategies exist in ECC that exist in APO.   They have been utilized for almost 20 years so doubt SAP will be changing them anytime soon.
