You should have created a storage location defined as EWM-storage location in ERP system. You should have also created warehouse number in ERP defined as EWM-warehouse. Both, the ERP-storage location and warehouse number are mapped in EWM system, because they should be created also on the EWM side. Also ERP-plant is mapped in EWM as Business Parnter (e.g. shiping point). It is important which implementation you are working with. With ERP system with decentralized EWM, or maybe in S/4 HANA. The configuration can be little different.
It would be better if you read this document (this is clearly explained on pages: 41, 42, 43 - but for intergration ERP system with EWM)
