EWM Storage bin Sections Put Away blocked

Hi.

I have a storage bin with multiple sub-bins created as bin sections and created a warehouse task which placed the stock into the 1st storage bin sub-bin with no issues. I then set a put away block on the bin master and created a second WT expecting the stock to be placed in a different bin (due to the put away block) however, this wasn't the case and the second WT placed the product into a different section of the first bin.

When I set the put away block on the bin, I anticipated all sub-bins (sections) to also be blocked, but this can't be the case based on the above test.

Is it correct that the other sub-bins are 'open' even though the high level bin is blocked for placement or have I missed something ?

TIA

Cheers

Hi,

"I then set a put away block on the bin master "

What do you see after you have set this block? If you display the bins in the warehouse management monitor, and select the higher level bin and set a block, you should immediately see if the block is also set for the sub-bins (and in my system it does).

All the above is no official SAP statement.

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!

And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Well I'll be ......... it's working.

Found it in the monitor as directed and when I blocked the high level bin, it flowed through to all the sub bins. Unlocked then again through the monitor and tried again via /SCWM/LS02 and hey presto, same result.

No idea why that might be but either way it works. Thanks for your guidance ............ and patience 🙂

Aahhhhhh, I see (every day's a school day).

Ok thanks, I'll give that a go although i suspect if it doesn't work via /SCWM/LS02 it won't work in the monitor either, but who knows.

Thanks again

Hi

When I look in the monitor under Stock and Bin >> Storage Bin there is no option to change the bin status only

  • Physical Stock
  • Available Stock
  • Handling Unit
  • Fixed Bin Assignment

From what I've read, there should be an 'Other' option under which the bins can be blocked/unblocked ??

Either way, if the higher level bin is blocked it should flow down to the sub-bins using either txn, as proven by your testing (thanks). So there must be something missing in the system I am using. I've check at storage type / section levels to see if I'm missing a flag or setting, but can't see anything there either.

This is very strange I think. Do you know of any other setting anywhere that i could check ?

TIA

You get the list of storage bins (just double-click on "Storage Bin" (in the path Stock and Bin--> Storage Bin). In the screen on the right, above the list of bins, you have "more methods". And here you select to block / unblock bins.

I am not aware of any setting which is meant to avoid that the block on the higher level bin is copied down to the segments.

Hi, thanks for this.

To block the bin I use /SCWM/LS02 as there is no option within our version of the warehouse monitor 😞 but I cannot block the sub-bins via that transaction.

I have asked the basis team to confirm which release we currently have.

Checking in the help portal, I have found information about using exception codes for WT's created before the bin was blocked, but not convinced that's relevant to this issue whereby the sub-bins remain open even though the master bin is blocked. I can't seem to find anything around blocking sub-bins ??

Thanks for your help so far and if you have any other suggestions, they would be gratefully received.

"To block the bin I use /SCWM/LS02 as there is no option within our version of the warehouse monitor "

What do you mean "there is no option in our version of the warehouse monitor". That is one thing which is there from the beginning. And which is the best thing anyway, as there is no other mass transaction for blocking bins.

And I did test it also with /SCWM/LS02 - worked for me as well.

Thanks Juergen

That's what I was expecting to see in my system however, when I display the higher level bin, the Putaway block can been seen however, when I display the lower level bin sections, the block isn't set.

Does this mean each section has to be blocked individually or should it be that if the higher level bin is blocked, the same is automatically applied to the lower sections ??

Hi,

when I tested that and blocked the higher level in via the warehouse management monitor, the block was automatically applied to the sections as well, I did not have to do anything. So I would say it is automatically applied to the sections as well.

How do you set the block? What release you got? And then I would check if there is any note, or open a ticket for it (if no one here says that this is caused by something specific).
