Hi we have a customer looking at option of deploying S4 embedded EWM and also use StRM function on same instance. Due to the restriction of integrating of existing warehouses on SAP WM system to new S4 system with Embedded EWM. Customer does not want to risk migration of all warehouses from existing SAP WM system to new S4 in big bang deployment but wants to opt for a phased deployment to S4 Embedded EWM.
Are there any restriction to have 1 warehouse running on S4 Embedded EWM and the other warehouses using StRM in same instance?
How do we then move the next warehouse from StRM to Embedded EWM?
What are the considerations and risks to have in mind?
Your shared inputs would be much appreciated

Hi,
right now the customer would not even use Stock Room Management, as WM in S/4HANA is still supported until 31.12.2025 (see SAP Note 2269324 - Compatibility Scope Matrix for SAP S/4HANA).
Edit: if the customer is starting to plan now, of course the end of 2025 might come quick. So you need to check if all warehouses which are not migrated, fit into the limitations of SRM.
"Are there any restriction to have 1 warehouse running on S4 Embedded EWM and the other warehouses using StRM in same instance?"
There is no restriction at all. You can have each warehouse with a different warehouse management solution (WM, dec. WM, EWM (embedded or decentral), non-SAP system, lean-WM) in an instance.
"How do we then move the next warehouse from StRM to Embedded EWM?"
You activate the warehouse number as EWM warehouse and create a distribution model (well, and some other works...).
"What are the considerations and risks to have in mind?"
There are no special risks IMHO. I don't think we would expect any customer to change all warehouses into EWM in one move. What is to consider is the locations. It is not easy for your processes if at one plant you use a mix of different solutions (WM and EWM), as this makes it more complex for users and support.

All the above is no official SAP statement.

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!
And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Hi Juergen, considering that there will be no technical transition from Wm to StRm, only that certain features will not be available after end of 2025 (eg. TRM), can the question Migration from StRM to Embedded EWM? be change to Migration from WM to Embedded EWM? Wouldn't the migration steps be the same regardless if it is STRM or WM?
Hello pat.pillay
pat.pillayThe response from juergen.pitz is spot on. Just don't get confused, "stock room management" is by no means any new functionality. It's just a fancy name for a limited scope of the old, good LE-WM. As per note 2881166 - FAQ : Stock Room Management the limitation is:
Task & Resource Management (LE-TRM), Value Added Service (LE-WM-VAS), Yard Management (LE-YM), Cross-Docking (LE-WM-CD), Wave Management/Collective Processing (LE-WM-TFM-CP), Decentral Warehouse Management (LE-WM-DWM) and Warehouse Control Unit Interface (LSR).
Therefore we can speak of a migration from LE-WM to stock room management. After 31.12.2025 you are not entitled anymore to use the above functions in LE-WM, that's it.
