Hi Krishna,

As mentioned by the colleagues in the previous comments we will need to have a look at what requirements for GIS, scheduling and dispatching and executing work you have. Your SAP representative should be able to guide you towards the best solution.

Things that they might consider to give you an answer:

- Do you have GIS mobile requirements, GIS planning requirements or both? Are you already using a GIS solution?

- For scheduling and dispatching, do you dispatch at the technician level or work order/capacity level? Do you need advanced AI tools to automate dispatching?

- For work execution, what is your work planning system of record? SAP ECC EAM or S/4HANA or a non SAP system?

Best,

Alba

Yes we use GIS. Yes we need AI tools to automate schedule and dispatch. We are using S/4 HANA. We also require Meter Reading and Inspections embedded in a single mobility tool.

Thanks to Friederike for providing great feedback! Based on my own and the experience of Evora colleagues, here comes a short reply, with more detailed information following soon. So I suggest following our blog to read the full post later. If the tasks are mostly internal maintenance, it might be easier to go for SSAM, as a lot of required functionalities exist “out of the box” whereby in FSM Mobile things could be configured/created as so-called “Smartforms” (also avlbl in SSAM since 2210) and relevant logic in the backend. So depending on the needs, the answer could be:

  • For utilities and meter-related work, the use cases need to be evaluated. SSAM provides functionalities for meter-related work out of the box. In FSM Mobile the functionality can be extended. But at the end, both would perfectly work together with FSM planning and dispatching.
  • If one is solely looking for a tool where technicians can create/ consume (without planning and scheduling) maintenance orders, they could go for SSAM
  • FSM with FSM Mobile should be considered for those who are mostly in the service area (not internal maintenance) and need the functionality of scheduling service work, executing checklists/ smartforms and closing the process with billing in the backend - the benefit is, that FSM can also be integrated to other solutions or backend-systems than SAP ECC/ S/4
  • SSAM is probably best for customers that are already using WM/ SAM/ SSAM and want to enhance their functionality with scheduling/ dispatching with FSM as SSAM, FSM, ECC/ S/4 are able to work together.

I hope I was able to provide you our view on when to use what.

And, as highlighted, we’re planning a full blog entry regarding this topic…so…stay tuned 😉

Best regards

Michael

Hello Michael, thanks for your response.

So, can we use the Fiori app for dispatching? along with Asset Manager instead of FSM?

Since Fiori is readily offering this feature?

Good Morning Krishna,

to which Fiori app are you referring to?

From my knowledge, there is just one Fiori-App, which is supporting this functionality (our Product "EvoPlan"), that is providing a proper scheduling part out of the box. If you're talking about this, then I can give you a clear "yes" on the functionality.

FSM itself is not a Fiori app as another technology is used here.

I hope, this is answering your question.

Cheers

Michael

Hi Krishna,

The key difference between SAP Field Service Management and SAP Service and Asset Manager is that:

SAP Field Service Management is a cloud native platform for Field Service end to end processes from customers self-service, focusing on optimization and automation of dispatching and routes to native mobile apps as part of this platform available on iOS, Android and Windows. It also includes a crowd service to assign jobs external resources and provide them access to information and instructions with a partner portal or mobile apps.

SAP Service and Asset Manager is on the one side the name of the commercial offering to use one of the 3 mobile solutions

  1. SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM)
  2. Field Service Mobile app as part of SAP Field Management platform (FSM Mobile)
  3. SAP Maintenance Assistant

On the other side SAP Service and Asset Manager stands for the mobile solution based on BTP SDK and Mobile Development Kit that works natively with ERP (ECC or S/4) data.

We have seen especially in the last year that both mobile solution, FSM Mobile and SSAM can be very suitable for a utilities company.

The answer on which tool is more suitable depends firstly on the customer's backend system and the supported integration scenarios, e.g.

  • SAP ERP vs Other ERP (supported only with FSM)
  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private vs Public (only supported for FSM or Maintenance Assistant)
  • ECC older versions not supported by SSAM
  • ISU not directly integrated with FSM out of the box
  • PM, CS or other components needed for integration

Then it also depends on the required functional scope and expected architecture, e.g.

  • Is a native integration of the mobile solution to SAP ERP important?
  • Is an end to end cloud solution including dispatching expected?

There are also other factors to take into consideration so this is not a simple answer. As a summary:

Both mobile solution, FSM Mobile and SSAM are suitable for Utilities Industry. Utilities customers have very different approaches and requirements so we suggest to get in contact with your SAP representative to get the information case by case what would be the most suitable tool.

Kind Regards,

Friederike
