Division of storage bin into sections - sub-bins sequence

Hello Experts,

I have a question about the storage bin division in EWM (in pallet storage).

Let's say I need to configure the storage bin sectioning in the way that during putaway the system will find a section (sub-bin):

/3 and then postition /4 and then 5 and 2.

My customizing data looks like in below picture:

So, my comprehension is:

1. The system will find the storage bin and create the subbins at the first (during the first putaway)

2. Then the stock will be stored at the poistion /1 in my storage bin.

3. During the putaway for the next HU I understand the system put the HU to the next sub-bin (/2).

I understand it. But the question is: why even if I change the entry like in picture below:

The system still put the HUs according to the first picture. Of courese I mean the putaway for the same HU type.

It has nothing to do with the storage bin sortation and the below activities, hasn't it?:

Is there a possibility to achieve the special sortation rule for sub-bins sortation within the storage bin in standard?

EDIT: I wanted to add that there is no business requirement to do this. This is just a hobby question 😉

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards,
Marek

Hello marcuss

Indeed it has nothing to do with bin sorting. Your question is about subbins, not about storage bins.

Placement into a pallet storage with bin sections is supposed to work according to the bin sectioning, i.e. as you expected in your 2nd setup.

Bear in mind that bin sectioning is created during the first put away into an empty bin. So in order to test your 2nd setup, you have to empty the bin first.

I've reviewed the code quickly both in LE-WM and EWM - it should place the stock according to bin sections. If it doesn't, it's a bug and should be reported to SAP support.

Also there is a very valid business requirement for such a setup. Typically bins are divided like:

- a bin with 3 sections: 1, 3, 2

- a bin with 5 sections: 1, 3, 5, 4, 2

You minimize risk of pallet damage when you place like that.
