Hi All,

I am puzzled about the difference between Request and Planning Level ?

I know the bookish definition but practically not able to understand.

Request Level - If user request the data at this level then what is planning level meant for ?

In excel - user can retrieve the data at multiple level so how only 1 request level calculation will provide the required output ?

Regards,

Prabhat

Hi ps_india,

In SAP IBP, the concepts of Request Level and Planning Level are used to define the granularity of data and calculations within the planning process. Let's understand their differences and how they are used practically:

  1. Request Level: The Request Level represents the granularity at which users request or input data into the system. It determines the level of detail at which users interact with the planning process. For example, if the Request Level is set at the SKU-stock keeping unit (product) level, users will input and retrieve data for individual SKUs.

  2. Planning Level: The Planning Level, on the other hand, defines the level of detail at which calculations and planning processes are performed within the system. It represents the level of aggregation or consolidation of data for planning purposes. For example, if the Planning Level is set at the Product Group level, calculations and planning processes will be performed for groups of products rather than individual SKUs.

Now, let's address your questions:

  • If a user requests data at the Request Level, what is the Planning Level meant for? The Request Level and Planning Level serve different purposes. The Request Level is the level of detail at which users interact with the planning system, while the Planning Level is the level at which calculations and planning processes are performed. The Planning Level allows for aggregating data and performing calculations at a higher level of granularity, which can help simplify the planning process and improve performance.

  • In Excel, users can retrieve data at multiple levels, so how can one Request Level calculation provide the required output? In SAP IBP, the Request Level represents the level at which users input data or request specific information. While users may request data at multiple levels, the system is designed to handle this by performing calculations and aggregations based on the Planning Level. The Planning Level determines the level of aggregation or consolidation for calculations and planning processes. The system can aggregate or disaggregate data as needed to provide the required output based on the defined Planning Level.

In summary, the Request Level and Planning Level in SAP IBP serve different purposes. The Request Level represents the granularity at which users interact with the planning system, while the Planning Level determines the level of aggregation or consolidation for calculations and planning processes. By setting the appropriate Planning Level, the system can handle data retrieval and calculations at different levels of granularity to provide the desired output.
