Hi ,
In SAP TM module , what is the difference between Freight order And Freight booking ?
As per my understanding FO is used for Railway /road And FB for air /sea.
I want to understand the conceptual difference between two. Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Sreyashi,
the difference is not simply the mode, but the difference in the "standard" process between the modes.
In road and rail the freight order(which you communicate to the transportation service provider) matches the physical truck/railcar that is executed in the end and one freight order equals one move. (Yes there are some exceptions in e.g. LTL scenarios). The planning of freight orders is usually happening short term on existing freight units(demands).
In Ocean/Air you can reserve capacity for a vessel before there is any e.g. sales order based demand existing as the lead time for the booking is higher as in e.g. road. In addition you book an ocean transport but it might be door to door and include the truck pickup to be organized by the transportation service provider as well. You can book capacities for multiple containers in one booking also they are picked up by multiple trucks, which is why on top of the booking you have a freight order for pickup/delivery for the actual execution of the freight on pre-/on-carriage.

Emanuel
