difference between attribute "product family(PRDFAMILY)" and attribute "ProductTo(PRDTO)"?

Hi expert,

as noted in the title, I am wondering what is the difference between attribute "product family(PRDFAMILY)" in MDT "PRODUCT" and attribute "ProductTo(PRDTO)" in MDT "PRODUCTTO".

To my understanding, PRDFAMILY is used to bundle the each individual product as PRDID is equivalent to "iPhone10" or "iPhone11" while PRDFAMILY is equivalent to "iPhone". Given that, I would like to know what different role both KFs play in IBP. As long as checking the below URL, I found no detail information about the latter KF.

The best,

Hi Kenta,

About the Product Family (PRDFAMILY), yes, you're right. Furthermore, this is a non-root and non-key attribute and not used by default by TS-Based Supply Planning. It can be used though in the Aggregated Constraints.

Now, related to attribute Product To (PRDTO), this is used for downstream production key figures, e.g. Dependent Production Demand (DEPENDENTPRODUCTIONDEMANDDS), Component Supply (PRODUCTIONCOMPONENTDS), and Work-In-Process Component Supply (COMPONENTWIPDS). The base planning level of these key figures are:

  • Output Product (PRDTO) --> being the actual finished good
  • Location (LOCID)
  • Product (PRDID) --> being the component
  • Source ID (SOURCEID)

On the other hand, the upstream production key figures (e.g. DEPENDENTPRODUCTIONDEMAND, PRODUCTIONCOMPONENT, and COMPONENTWIP) change the product attributes in the following way:

  • Product (PRDID) --> being the actual finished good
  • Component (PRDFR) --> being the component

Best regards,
Matheus
