Decentralized EWM on an SAP S/4HANA stack

Dears,

I would like to understand, what would be the possible impact of changing below configuration on already running S/4HANA on-premise 2021?

SAP Customizing Implementation Guide -> SCM Extended Warehouse Management -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Enable Decentralized EWM

It is important to clarify, that we ARE NOT using EWM (neither Emended nor Decentralized), but for some reason, during postings in MIGO transaction, system is "looking for" EWM tables to update (checked in de-bug mode). During this time of approximate 30 mins, documents posted are locked in SM12. We found out, IF Decentralized EWM is activated in SPRO, the system skip searching and directly post without DB block.

Help information says:

Note:

You must not change the configuration of whether EWM is embedded or decentralized once transaction data exists, because this would disrupt existing processes and documents.

For more information about EWM deployment options, see SAP Note 1606493.

So, we have transactional data, BUT it is not in EWM tables (as we didn't activate EWM), hence question is: In case, we change set up to "Decentralized EWM", when we actually don't have such, whether to expect any negative impact on system?

Thank you!

Hello @MNaidenova

You should definitely not activate EWM unless you are using it. The process of material documents posting with 30 mins delay and locking is not normal. That should be reported to SAP support.

You can also share the code that is blocking postings here along with EWM tables that are accessed during postings - I'll see if I can make any sense of it.

Hi,

if I remember correctly (not logged on to an SAP system that late) you use that setting to define that a system is actually used as a decentral EWM.

From your question I am not 100% sure, but I think you are using your system as an ERP system (not a decentralized warehouse management system). If I am right you should not have the setting in a way that defines your system as a decentral EWM - it's either a "central" ERP or it's a decentral EWM, it cannot be both at the same time.

Can you share a screenshot of the setting?

And I agree that your system behaves strangely regarding the posting delays.
