Data fetch failed - Restricted measure in SAP IBP Embedded SAC

Hi Community Members,

I have a key figure that's set as both calculated and stored and when creating a restricted measure against it, Analytics Stories in SAP IBP fails to load.

The error message in the graph is "failed to fetch data".

Detailed error message reads "The measure used for the restricted measure is not supported", "there are no performance suggestions at this time".

I understand restricted and calculated measures in Stories do not support calculated KFs however this particular KF is both calculated and stored. Therefore I am at a loss as to why it failed to fetch data. Looking through the configurations of that very KF vs others the only difference I can see is "Aggregation Mode". The other KFs have aggregation modes of "SUM" whereas this particular KF in question has an aggregation mode of "CUSTOM".

Anyone with similar experience / insights to whether the aggregation modes impact the function of Stories' Restricted Measures I appreciate your input.

Thank you.

Hi vincent_kh_chen,

In SAP IBP, the aggregation mode of a key figure can impact the functionality of restricted measures in Analytics Stories. While calculated & stored key figures can be used in restricted measures, the aggregation mode can affect the behavior & compatibility with certain features.

When the aggregation mode of a key figure is set to "SUM," it indicates that the key figure values are additive & can be summed up across different dimensions. This is the standard & most commonly used aggregation mode.

However, when the aggregation mode is set to "CUSTOM," it means that the key figure has a customized aggregation logic defined. The custom aggregation can include complex calculations, non-additive operations, or specific business rules that determine how the values are aggregated across dimensions.

Restricted measures in Analytics Stories are designed to work with key figures that have a standard "SUM" aggregation mode. They may not support or work properly with key figures that have a custom aggregation mode. This could be the reason why you are encountering the "failed to fetch data" error when using a restricted measure with your calculated & stored key figure that has a "CUSTOM" aggregation mode.

To resolve this issue, you have a few options:

1. Change Aggregation Mode: If possible, you can consider changing the aggregation mode of the key figure from "CUSTOM" to "SUM." This will align it with the standard aggregation behavior supported by restricted measures in Analytics Stories.

2. Use a Calculated Key Figure: Instead of using a restricted measure, you can create a calculated key figure that performs the required calculations or restrictions directly. Calculated key figures are more flexible & can handle complex aggregations or business rules.

3. Adjust Data Model & Story Design: If changing the aggregation mode or using a calculated key figure is not feasible, you may need to review your data model & story design to find alternative approaches that achieve the desired results. This could involve redefining your requirements or using different components within Analytics Stories.

It's worth noting that the exact behavior & limitations of restricted measures can vary based on the specific version & configuration of IBP you are using. If you're still facing issues after exploring the options above, I recommend reaching out to SAP Support for further assistance. They can provide guidance based on your specific system configuration & requirements.
