Best way to report on Days Cover

Hello Experts -

We need a days cover report which works at product-location level as well as at the aggregate level ( multi-location single product, multi-location multi product). Appreciate your insights on this issue I'm facing. The formula for calculating days cover is obviously pretty standard but I've been struggling on how to feed the correct demand and supply info for days cover to be calculated at multiple levels. So I will focus on getting the total demand and total supply right part.

Scenario here -

  • Location B Fcst 150
  • Location A Fcst 100
  • Location B sources product from Location A, Assume lead times = 0 for simplicity,

After the supply planning run, data would look like this -

  • Loc B - Fcst 150, total demand 150, distribution receipt 150, total supply 150
  • Loc A - Fcst 100. Distribution demand 150, total demand 250, Planned Receipt 250, total supply 250

All the key figure data is extracted into BW. The logic for calculating days cover at single production-location level, I can use total demand vs total supply to calculate days cover ( just like in the planning book) without any issue but when I run this at aggregated level with 2 locs, using same logic, total demand becomes 400 and total supply also becomes 400 which is overstated/inaccurate.

How do we make sure that the total demand and total supply is accurate when running the report at an aggregate level ( 2 locs level)? If I put in a condition in BW that says when we run this report at an aggregate level, ignore distribution demand and distribution receipts, and only consider Fcst ( sum up fcst at both locs ), Planned Receipts, it could work, My total demand would be 250 and total supply would be 250.

But if Location B had product coming in from location C( as distribution receipt), I would want this supply to be included in my total supply.

Basically I should be able to select a group of locations, and create an accurate total demand and supply information ( without duplicating the demand) to be able to calculate days cover.

Any inputs on this, I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks in advance!
