When the Olympic flame is ignited at the Olympic Stadium on July 27, it will have traveled through over 1,000 cities, towns and villages in the United Kingdom. The Olympic torch arrived in the UK from Greece on May 18 and started its 70 day journey from Land’s End to London the very next day. By the time the Olympic flame is lit, it will have been carried by 8,000 touch bearers.
The organizers have overcome a logistical challenge to ensure the Olympic Flame traveled within an hour of 95% of people in the UK, the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey during the 70-day Torch Relay. But this isn’t the only logistics challenge to be overcome at the “Games of the XXX Olympiad.”
