In June 2022,
Hannover Messe International (HMI) hybrid event took place in Hannover, Germany. The 4-day event gave participating companies the opportunity to discover how they could realign their business processes to become intelligent and sustainable enterprises.
SAP S/4HANA for Manufacturing Logistics and its mobile native cloud capabilities was showcased on how it can help enterprises transform to become more resilient and sustainable by
unlocking the value of Industry 4.0.
For us, this event was a great chance to provide a clear overview on our solution, our cloud roadmap items and lab preview of our mobile applications.

Visualizing software in a colorful & playful way
It’s interesting to note that HMI was our first on-site event since the launch of the
SAP S/4 HANA for Manufacturing Logistics. Coming after a long period of online meetings, presentations, and video conferences, we decided to make our showcase fun and easy to relate with. Guided tours were offered every hour in various languages, groups of people were delighted by our Lego showcase and were able to engage in running a line feeding process from mobile devices and corresponding industry wearables.

Engaging with our Audiences via Pitch-Style Live Demo
To easily convey the key messages and value of the solution, we created a pitch-style live demo utilizing our mobile
native line feeding application, which was well-received by the audience. Before running the demo, we explained the context of our industry standard, including the major building blocks (Inbound Cargo Registration, Shuttle and Route Trains) in our Lego End to End showcase.

Industry wearables with SAP S/4HANA for manufacturing logistics
Regarding the line feeding building block, we requested active participation from the visitors for loading and delivery of the goods with a route train. This was done utilizing our
mobile devices, like a Samsung Tablet, an iPhone or a Zebra Industry handheld. All could optionally be connected to an industry wearable “Pro Glove paperless” to show the versatility of the mobile connections.

Valuable feedback collected
We were happy to see amazed visitors such as architects, developers, consultants, colleagues of other software vendors, our internal stakeholders from sales and even kids at our stand. Based on the valuable discussions with them; our customers and stakeholders appreciated the strong focus on user experience in terms of performance, accessibility, and usability – and this was very important feedback for us. The discussions showed that adapting our software interfaces to common human interactions like touch, voice, and simple integration to wearables, was the right approach to make our software easy to use.
We were also able to demonstrate that it’s not required for organizations to move ‘all in one go’ to the cloud. The showcase delivered stable and reliable performance in a hybrid setup with SAP S/4HANA for manufacturing logistics on premise and the SAP Business Technology Platform’s mobile services including our Route Train Operations app (Pilot). The on-premise landscape could be seen as the process enabler. Moreover, the fact that we were able to run our Apps in a common network, namely on LTE, presented a clear advantage according to our visitors: flexible roll out and deployment! Since our showcase was set-up in an autarkic mode (mobile network built into devices to provide self-sufficiency) this was a useful side feedback.
On behalf of our teams within SAP - CIM Engineering, CIM Product Management and our extended team from consulting, we are proud of the positive feedback we received at this event. It reaffirmed our strategic direction, boosted our motivation to deliver, and helped in driving adoption and market suitability.
