SAP Extended Warehouse Management for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition: functional comparison and deployment options

SAP offers several solutions on the warehouse management domain, that could be in the cloud or in the private Cloud. Based on this, more and more customers are requesting information and clarity as regards of the warehouse management solutions. They look for the differences at functional perspective between the SAP solutions as well as the possible deployment options.

In this blog I will focus on SAP Extended Warehouse Management for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition and on Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud

One of my customers that is currently working on its SAP S/4HANA transformation journey and, as part of it, evaluating warehouse management solutions has asked me 2 questions:

• What are the main differences between SAP EWM for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition and Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud in terms of capabilities and coverage?


• What are the deployment options for each of the solution in a complex environment that includes SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA cloud and non-SAP systems?

The answer was not straight forward as such documentation does not exist on the shelves and has required to consolidate a set of information coming from exchanges with Solution and Product Teams.

The aim of this blog is to share these elements that I have gathered with SAP colleagues to help you to understand these differences and the deployment options for your pitch to your customers in case they ask the same questions.

 

The SAP solutions in the cloud on warehouse management:

1/ SAP EWM for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition

“Basic functions” are Included in the SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition subscription

In the case customer needs to implement all the “advanced functions” then an additional license is required

2/ Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud - Included in the SAP S/4HANA Cloud subscription

SAP EWM for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition and Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud deployment options

Option 1 - Deploy the SAP EWM for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition. This solution is embedded in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition. See Figure 1

Option 2 - Deploy the Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud. This solution is embedded in S/4HANA Cloud. See Figure 2

Option 3 - Decentralized SAP EWM for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition deployment. The decentralized system is a SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition that embed SAP EWM for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition. Another name for this option is the side car option. This side car system can be integrated with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC or non-SAP systems. See Figure 3
