We are now in the final third of 2019, which has so far to be an exciting time for the SAP Extended Warehouse Management Application (SAP EWM), which enables companies to optimize warehouse and distribution operations. Over the year we have constantly worked on enhancing usability and user experience, as well as offering new functions and scenarios, so that our customers have new, easier and more efficient tools at their disposal to fit their needs and improve asset utilization, minimize inventory costs and maximize service levels through fulfilment acceleration and inbound-outbound processes coordination.
And now our most exciting update of the year, the 1909 EWM release, is out since September 20
th. In order to best cover the myriad of features and enhancements this release brings, we have published a 4-part series of blogs, each covering a specific topic of enhancements. These topics are:
- Improved User Experience
- Enhanced Integration
- Innovation
- Simplification
In this 4
th and final installment, we take a closer look at some of the new functions SAP brings to its Extended Warehouse Management solution.
New Change Documents
In this release we have added additional change documents that can display the change history. We have added this feature for: Control Cycles; Quality Inspection Rules; Fixed Bin Assignments. With this feature, users can display what has been changed, when it was changed, and which user has made the changes. An example of how the change document looks for Fixed Bin Assignments is provided below.
Enhancement in Warehouse Monitor
We’ve also worked on new enhancements for the Warehouse Monitor to make navigation easier, and to offer users new ways to refine their searches for the data they need. For example, we have added a new “Storage Bin Sorting” node under the “Stock and Bin” category. This new node gives users the ability to quickly show the settings for sorting storage bins in various warehouse activities.
Automatic Master Data Synchronization to Control QM Processes
With this feature, users can automatically generate inspection rules in decentralized Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) based on SAP S/4HANA from the connected enterprise management system (for example, SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA). When they connect decentralized EWM to an enterprise management system, they can enter the inspection setup data in the Quality Management view of the material master in the enterprise management system and establish an ALE distribution of the inspection setup data to the decentralized EWM system. The system then creates, updates, or deletes the inspection rules in the decentralized EWM system based on the inspection setup data in the enterprise management system.
Physical Inventory Counting Enhancements
Some small yet fundamental improvements were made for the Physical Inventory Counting process. Firstly, we added a new default stock type when capturing found stock.
Second, there is a new option to use a different queue for recounts. This makes it possible to do recounts in parallel, simplifying the counting process.
And third, when using RF counting, users can add the packaging material and handling unit type when specifying a handling unit.
Stop Putaway before Goods Receipt Posting
With this new feature, it is possible for users to enforce goods receipt before warehouse task creation through a setting in the customizing screen. This will prevent the creation of a warehouse task for an inbound delivery until the inbound delivery is completed and the goods receipt is posted.
