To create a live connection to the HANA DB of Digital Manufacturing Insights, the host URL and client credentials need to be provided. With release 2408 of SAP Digital Manufacturing, the tile for Initialize Embedded Analytics has been renamed to Configuration for Analytics. See What's New for 2408 https://help.sap.com/whats-new/983fc3e099074d1ea3ea6db6caf41678?Environment=Manufacturing%20Insights...

The application now exposes how to enable Single Sign On for embedded analytics, and in addition exposes the data needed for Live Connection. Host URL and client credentials can be copied or downloaded to be leveraged in the respective analytical tool.

The Reset button allows to renew the client credential as needed.

To leverage the Live Connection in SAP Datasphere, the following steps need to be executed:

In your SAP Datasphere instance, navigate to the Configuration section via the System menu in the lower left of your Datasphere screen.

Navigate further leveraging the Manage Live Data Connection button in the middle of the screen.

Close all popups left open.

Next please assure that SSL certificates are uploaded to your SAP Datasphere instance.

The certificates are described at https://help.sap.com/docs/hana-cloud-database/sap-hana-cloud-sap-hana-database-data-access-guide/imp... . You need to download the two certificates listed for SAP HANA Cloud, SAP HANA database.

Just copy the links (starting with https://) into your browser and download from there.

Then switch to your SAP Datasphere instance and again navigate to the Configuration section via the System menu in the lower left of your Datasphere screen. Click on the Security tab. Use the “+” button to upload both certificates to the SSL/TLS Certificates list.

If you have multiple spaces maintained, select your space accordingly.

Choose the Create button in the menu above the list to load the available connection types. Search for and select SAP HANA.

In the popup to create a connection, choose category Cloud and enter host and port as provided in the connection details.

Select Authentication Type User Name And Password and enter user and password provided in the connection details. Choose the Data Access pattern you request and press Next Step in the lower right corner to proceed.

Enter a business name and technical name in the net popup and press Create Connection in the lower right corner of the popup.

You can now access the views exposed in the schema for the user provided.

You may check in the Data Builder for a new Data Flow whether on the left-hand side in the menu for Sources the connection is listed. Expanding the connection tree of the user shared in the connection details, you should see the list of views for the Insights MDOs that can be accessed.

Hi Harry,

Great detailed explanation of how to create the DataSphere to DM connection. We're trying to follow this to establish our own connection but can't seem to replicate the HANA Live Connection steps as we only see SAP BW and SAP S/4HANA as options under Connect to Live Data.

Are we perhaps missing another configuration step to enable a live connection to HANA?

Thanks,

Hi Cal,

I realized the same, there seems to be a change in the latest version of Datasphere. You can now skip the first step and only assure the certificates are uploaded as described. It should then be sufficient to create the connection for the space you are in. This is described in the section further below.

I tested in my current environment and it works. I will try to update the blog accordingly.

Aha, thanks for confirming Harry.

We've managed to get the connection working successfully, now to get building!

Thanks again,

Cal
