Introduction
In 23.08 Release, SAP Digital Manufacturing introduced Indirect Labor Tracking capabilities, where workers can track time for activities not directly related to specific SFCs or with the manufacturing process it self, like trainings, cleaning and others.
In this blog post, I will show you a comprehensive demo and in detail how to configure and use Indirect Labor Tracking within SAP Digital Manufacturing.
Demo
Configure
To get started, in Manage Business Settings app, you can create the Indirect Labor Tracking Activities that you would like to track, like Cleaning, Training, etc.
Notice that Allow Parallel Tracking of Direct and Indirect Labor flag is available here, to enable / disable both Direct and Indirect labor tracking in parallel.
If set to No (default), production operators can't track direct and indirect labor simultaneously.
If set to Yes, production operators can track direct and indirect labor simultaneously.
Next, you must add Indirect Labor On and Off plugins to your POD in POD Designer under Assign Actions button for an Action Button.
Note that, for both Indirect Labor On and Off plugins, you have a couple flags and settings that can be adjusted like showing or hiding Comments field, selecting which Activities are shown during Indirect Labor On and if the Indirect Labor Tracking can be started on behalf of another User or not.
You can use Indirect Labor plugins in a Custom POD, Order POD, Work Center POD, and Operation Activity POD. To use the plugin in a POD, you must assign it to an action button.
Use
Once all needed Configurations are in place, you can open your POD and try it out.
When a Worker starts tracking Indirect Labor, the system creates a record that contains the user ID of the logged on user as well as the indirect labor activity. The system also saves other conextual data such as the date / time and the plant.
All Time Tracking Records, including Indirect Labor, can be seen in Manage Time Tracking app.
On this app, Time Records can be filtered, checked, created, edited, approved and deleted.
SAP Cross-Application Time Sheet Integration
Indirect Labor activities, such as setup, cleaning, maintenance and others, performed during production can be further integrated to SAP Cross-Application Time Sheet Integration (CATS) after approval. Once time records for indirect labor are approved, the system transfers the relevant data to the SAP Cross-Application Time Sheet in your integrated ERP system. For this to happen, you need to put the configuration in place as described at Transferring Indirect Labor Activities to the SAP Cross-Application Time Sheet.
