Dear All

I would like to present a solution for business requirement below:

"Putaway different sized handling units in different storage types"

I have achieved this using Quantity Classification of SAP EWM.

Purpose:

The purpose of my blog post is to understand how Quantity Classification in SAP EWM works by giving an example of complex putaway scenario.

Scenario Overview & Details:

We have 2 kinds of packaging for a raw material: less than 10 EA of material 5006356 (raw material) goes in a package with material code 50066358

If the qty. is 10 or more, it can be fitted in a bigger HU, with material code 50066357.

(CONFIGURATION)

(PACKAGING SPECIFICATION DATA)

In Packspec, I mentioned that HU with material 50066357 can store upto 20 EA of material 50066356 and HU with material 50066358 can store upto 9 EA of material 50066356.

(MASTER DATA)

(PRODUCT MASTER DATA)

TEST RESULTS:

Case 1) Inbound Qty. = 5 EA

As seen, the system diverts the package in OPEN storage area.

Case 2) Inbound Qty. = 25 EA

As seen, the system creates 2 HU - one with 2KG (20EA) and another with 5EA, placing them respectively in HR01 and OPEN storage types.

Summary:

Thus, we saw with the usage of Quantity Classification in SAP EWM, the system can be designed to map practical requirement of placing different sized boxes/pallets in different storage types they can fit in.

The same technique can be deployed to do quantity specific picking from different storage types.

Thanks,

Yogesh Agarwal.
