This blog is intended to showcase how outbound delivery can be packed with an Assortment Packing (Mix HU) using the UPB (Unified Package Building).

Assortment Packing is packing of multiple different products into one package and mainly observed in Fashion industry. Also, in other industries such as Packaged sweets, Nuts & Candies, Cosmetics, Garment, Paint industry etc.

Business Scenario: User will pick material from bins of different storage types. After picking user will move products to Work center for packing. User expects system should pack products and create Ship HUs automatically. HU labels will be printed and pasted for shipping further.

  • Configuration

1) Creation of Packaging Specification

2) Creation of UPB Profile (Unified Package Building)

SCM EWM > EWM > Cross-Process Settings > Handling Units > Unified Package Building > Define Unified Package Building ProfileVedant_Gunde_10-1738826763230.png

3) Assign UPB to Document Type

SCM EWM > EWM > Goods Issue Process > Outbound Delivery > Define Document Types for Outbound Delivery Process 

For Outbound delivery Doc type OUTB and doc type PDO.

4) Work Center Configuration

SCM EWM > EWM > Master Data > Work Center >Specify Work Center Layout

For a Warehouse Work center layout (Eg. VPMX), Pack Automatically should be active.Vedant_Gunde_12-1738827892194.png

  • Master Data 

1) Packaging Specification

Click on Create button and Select correct Packaging Specification group. Also Maintain condition records with a correct condition type.Vedant_Gunde_13-1738829134055.png

2) Reference Packaging material in Material Master

In S4 Material master in Basic Data 1 view or Sales: General/ Plant view maintain reference packaging material in which the product should be packed. It will be updated same in EWM product master.

  • Testing
  1.  Create Sale Order (VA01)

  2. Create Outbound Delivery (VL01N)

  3. Open Outbound Delivery in EWM (/N/SCWM/PRDO)

  4. Create Warehouse Task/ Warehouse Order

  5. Open and Confirm Warehouse Order
    All the products are picked in a single Pick HU. Once all the warehouse tasks confirmed, WO will be confirmed.

  6. Go to Pack Workcenter (/N/SCWM/PACK)

    In Control Tab provide default bin. If we use POSC, then no need to enter bin manually.Vedant_Gunde_31-1738829704790.png

    Select HU and click on pack button. Make sure Picking status should be completed. Vedant_Gunde_32-1738829704816.pngBased on Packaging specification Products are packed into different HUs. We can print the Handling Units labels and can be pasted on new Handling Units.

  7. Once all the products are packed outbound delivery status changed to Completed.
