Purchase requisitions from APO after planning run were not sent to ECC & hence planning/execution is stalled at warehouses & vendors.
CCR for orders suddenly started to take much lesser time than earlier.
There are issues in CPP which says that Purchase Requisitions are trying to go to ECC but unable to do so.
CIF job to generate the Order IM is running fine but CIF job to activate the IM is running for more than 12 hrs. which was generally taking less than 20 minutes.
Root Cause –
It was found that the Order Integration Model was somehow de-activated during a manual run of delta planning of few items. It was not able to be activated afterwards & data was building up to be sent from both sides.
SAP OSS was opened & problem was identified- Re-activation of PO/Preq IM. The job was generally taking less than a minute but recently it had been running very long & we were not able to activate this model. We even tried to do it manually but it’s still going for very long. This was Highly business critical to have this activated as soon as possible to have PO/Preq data available in APO otherwise we would have had a very bad planning weekend again.
SAP responded first saying that the IM is inactive. Activation causes initial load of all related external procurement orders (POs, PRs, confirmations) to APO. It can take hours. It can be influenced by quantity of transported orders and number of entries in related transparent tables.
ECC system :
EKPO > 3 mil.
EKET > 6 mil.
EKES > 7 mil.
EBAN > 34 mil.entries.
I think you compare time of activation of already active IM (very fast - delta transport - only new materials) with time of activation of inactive IM (initial load of ALL related orders). It is not comparable...
So, I think duration can be OK. Be aware you do the initial load only one time, next activations will be delta transfer. You can reduce time of read from tables by archive old PRs and POs -> reduce number of entries in tables.
Since we were very much pressed with time & Activation job failed even after running for 14 hrs & it was already Thursday evening we went back to SAP for some resolution.
SAP recommended next emergency solution is note 740865 - Activating integration models without initial data transfer.
The note contains program for IM activation without data transport. You can transport data missing in APO in second step by delta report. It is emergency solution for very big IMs.
Testing & Implementation-
Since this note was new we checked for any side effects it could have on planning or data transfer. We did not find much issues in implementing the same. A Z program was developed as suggested in note by ABAP team & we tested in Dev where it seemed to work fine.
Below are few screen shots explaining on how to use the program. You may need a fire fighter to use the same.
You can provide which of the particular IM you are trying to activate or it will give a whole list of created IMs from where you can select your IM.
Select & Execute
IM is activated & same can be checked in the status.
Delta transfer after wards got all the data to APO & also we were able to push Purchase Requisitions data to ECC.
Caution- This note says at the end and as well know that ‘When you activate the IM without corresponding initial data transfer to APO system, there might be inconsistencies in data between the ECC & APO systems.’ Hence it’s really important to follow the steps & do the delta transfer immediately after activation. Just for information, we did not find any inconsistencies after implementing the note & activating the Order IM.
Note - This particular issue we have faced in a very big AFS client but it should be applicable to Apo as a whole as well.
