Hi, recently i faced an issue regarding alternate UOM and conversion factor. I am sharing some insights from my experience.

Problem Statement: There are two manufacturing plants, semi-finished material is manufactured in one plant location for example A and send to another plant location for example B by stock transfer. The problem came in the units of measure. The material base units of measure is in NOS and the UOM required in Delivery Challan (Stock transfer)is in KG.

Solution: The conversion factor is added in material master additional data tab as per below screenshot:

Concept of alternate UOM in SAP:

A unit of measure that is defined in the SAP system in addition to the base unit of measure. For example, the base unit of measure might be "NOS" while the alternative unit might be "carton" or "pallet".

In above screenshot X is denominator and Y is numerator:

To convert a quantity, whose unit of measure is not the same as the base unit of measure, into the base unit of measure, the system requires a quotient:

Quantity (in alternative unit of measure) = quotient * quantity (in base unit of measure)

For example: The alternative unit of measure is kilogram (kg). The base unit of measure is in numbers(Nos). 0.468 kg correspond to 1 Nos.

0.468 Kg = 1 Nos => 1 KG = 1/0.468 Nos

Here the numerator is 1 and denominator is 0.486

You can also enter only whole numbers in the numerator and denominator field, i.e if 0.468 kg correspond to 1 Nos, you must enter integer multiples (468 KG = 1000 Nos). In this case the numerator is 468. and numerator is 1000. You can add more than one alternative units, the system converts all other units into base units of measure.
