Automatic packing of EWM Outbound delivery based on Packing Instructions (UPB)

Automatic packing in EWM Outbound delivery was always required and so from version 2022, SAP came up with concept of UPB where in it was made possible to pack the outbound deliveries automatically by using Packing Instructions/Specification within the transaction.

As per the existing design the packing in outbound delivery is done manually, in which the user will select the picked item that needs to be packed and create a handling unit to pack the subsequent item. Drag and drop of product to pack it in the created handling unit is also available.

However, it is a tedious job to select every product/item manually and create HU’s to pack them.

To make this process easier for the customers, auto pack functionality is introduced- where the customer can simply choose the product to be packed and click on “Auto pack” button which will identify the appropriate packaging materials of the products and create the handling units automatically.

1. Config part

Logistics General => Handling Unit Management =>Automatic Packing => Unified Package Building

Activate UPB

Define Unified Package Building Profile -> Choose Packing Instructions

Maintain Packing Process Profiles

Define Procedure for Packing Instructions Determination

• Add Condition Type 0OBD 

SPRO -> EWM -> Goods Issue -> Define Document Types for Outbound Delivery Process  

• Assign UPB profile to Outbound document type  

2. Master Data -> For  Auto Packing (Nested) during Outbound after picking 

POP1 – Packing Instructions

Level 1 :

Level 2 :

Packing Instruction -> Warehouse tab ->  Maintain HU type in both the levels.

Packing Conditions records (POF1) ->Customer and Product specific Auto packing.

Enter Determination type -> 0OBD

Key combination -> Choose Material and Ship -to-party

Assign Packing Instructions for Customer and Product Master

3. Business Process : Auto Packing using of packing instruction per Customer and Product Master in EWM Outbound delivery

Pre-requisites are 

• Picking -> Stock should move to Pack Workstation  or Good issue Zone.
• Picking Status should confirmed status.
  

Go to Follow On functions -> Pack

Select  HU 

Control Tab -> Enter BIN

Click Button  -> Pack Automatically Button

Conclusion : EWM Outbound delivery is packed automatically based on Customer and Product Master by using packing Instructions (Unified Package Builder)
