*UPDATE March 14th, 2025* Added description of migration for Test Tenants.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, SAP Enable Now, currently hosted on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) Neo environment, is making strides toward greater efficiency and innovation. With the anticipated internal end of life of the BTP Neo platform scheduled for the end of 2025 (SAP Note 3351844), all SAP Enable Now, cloud edition tenants will need to transition to the new, advanced platform SAP BTP, Kyma runtime. Please note that the timeline for this transition differs a bit compared to the overall BTP Neo sunset timeline (see 3612512 - Sunset of NEO and Migration to KYMA – Official Statement - SAP for Me).

For SAP Enable Now, this means a re-platforming and a more flexible availability on hyperscalers like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS) based on availability.

For customers of SAP Enable Now, this means a smoother runtime and a future-proof platform.

Benefit from Advanced Features and Enhanced Resilience

Transitioning to the SAP BTP Kyma platform promises a more resilient and highly available platform for our customers. Besides retaining the existing features, this migration brings an array of new functionalities on the horizon. Customers can look forward to higher scalability, top of the notch database versions, enhanced security, and more detailed monitoring and observability.

The architecture diagram below outlines the future landscape and shows how SAP Enable Now will be running on SAP BTP, Kyma runtime.

Seamless Migration Strategy

Commercial Impact

Rest easy; this migration comes without any commercial impact. There will be no new material code introduced, making this transition seamless from a commercial perspective.

Technical Considerations

It is planned to migrate the SAP Enable Now tenants from SAP BTP Neo to SAP BTP Kyma during regular maintenance windows. The migration timeline allows up to 48 hours for the transfer of productive tenants with a notification issued upon completion. For example beginning at 10 PM CET on Fridays for EU data centers. For detailed schedules, please refer to the maintenance windows page.

Migration Steps
  1. Preview Tenants will be migrated to Kyma. The schedule for the Preview migration phase is now finalized, and we anticipate migrating the Productive systems one month later.
  2. Following the migration of the preview, customers will receive a notification, complete with instructions on configuring SSO and information about the target data center. If you want to know how long it took to migrate the Preview so that you can judge the impact of the production migration, please open a support ticket with the title "Kyma Migration".
  3. Customers are asked to then configure the SSO and, if required, the IP range allow list. More details in this KBA: 3539370 - [Preview First, Then Productive] Migration of SAP Enable Now from Neo to Kyma Platform - S.... Should you require a direct connection without an IAS, please submit a manual IDP ticket labeled "KYMA Migration."
  4. Be mindful that different IPs might be utilized for production, so you may need to adjust your Allow List settings for both preview and production phases. See below section on IP ranges for more details.
  5. We encourage you to test the preview thoroughly to ensure access works prior to production migration. If any issues occur, please open a support ticket with the title "Kyma Migration" and the component KM-SEN-MGR.
  6. Automatic email updates will be dispatched each weekend before the Production system updates.
  7. The migration of the productive tenants will then be carried out, with a notification issued upon completion. This process involves transferring data in the form of many small files from one infrastructure to another.
Migration of Test Tenants

Please note that if you have subscribed to a Test Tenant, the migration will follow these steps:

  1. There will be no Kyma Preview.
  2. These Test Tenants will be migrated directly to Kyma.
  3. The Test Tenant migration schedule has the EU tenants migrating on 22./23. March and the US tenants on 29./30. March.
Single Sign-On (SSO) Adjustments

A critical technical preparation involves updating your single sign-on (SSO) setup. Before migrating to the SAP BTP, Kyma runtime, ensure your identity provider (IdP) sends four additional SAML attributes:

  • given_name
  • family_name
  • email
  • Groups (needed if you've previously sent corporategroups in your SSO configuration)

Without these updates, the SSO functionality may encounter issues post-migration. Detailed preparation steps are available in the updated SAP Note 3579869 - SSO Configuration for SAP Enable Now Hosted on the Kyma Platform. You can check this with any SAML tracer (browser extension) if you look for the SAML 2.0 AttributeStatement of your SAP Enable Now tenant URL.

Selection of the IAS tenant is meticulous, ensuring consistent IAS URLs across all providers. Existing connected IAS providers will be taken as the default providers for the Kyma tenants.

The additional step of creating new applications will be done by the SAP Enable Now support and the new Enable now application will be created in IAS automatically. We recommend that you collaborate with your IdP administrator to implement these updates starting with SAP Enable Now release 2406. When IAS is not used the SAP Enable Now support is available to be contacted by the customer in order to redo the authentication (OpenID or SAML 2.0 via metadata exchange).

IP Ranges

The IP ranges for SAP Enable Now tenants will change. For customers who have created an allow-list for their IP ranges, this means a change in that allow-list. As the productive clusters are provisioned in each data center, SAP will communicate the new IP ranges via this SAP Note: 3539370 - [Preview First, Then Productive] Migration of SAP Enable Now from Neo to Kyma Platform - S...

Migration of Single Tenant environments

A few customers are still running SAP Enable Now on single tenant infrastructure. This infrastructure cannot be supported any longer on the SAP BTP, Kyma runtime. Therefore, all current single tenant environments will be commercially and technically migrated to the new material code and the SAP BTP, Kyma runtime. Affected customers have been contacted directly and can follow through with the move at the time of their next renewal.

Migration Timeline and Data Center Management

The migration will be conducted on a data center-by-data center basis. For a comprehensive list of available data centers, please visit SAP's data center information page.

The first data center planned for migration is RI1 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the process commencing in Q4 2024. An announcement regarding this was made to all BTP tenants in Riyadh1 DC in March 2024. There is an official FAQ document available here

The timeline below lists the data centers and the scheduled migration of the Preview tenants from NEO to Kyma. Please be aware that this is a high-level plan and changes can happen due to unforeseen circumstances.

2025_Kyma_Migration_Timeline.png

Starting January 2025, all new SAP Enable Now customers will be provisioned on the SAP BTP, Kyma runtime data centers as and when they become available.

The migration for existing SAP Enable Now customers will begin in Q2 2025, with preparations having been underway since 2023. All customers will be notified once their data center migration is scheduled in and again two weeks before the planned migration date.

Moving Forward Together

We are committed to ensuring that this migration process is as smooth and beneficial as possible for our customers. The enhanced features and the robustness of the SAP BTP, Kyma runtime will undeniably uplift your experience with SAP Enable Now. Stay tuned for more updates and prepare for a seamless transition.
