As you might recall, Embedded IoT has been generally available as part of SAP Asset Performance Management (APM) since last year.   With the latest release, 2505, we are bringing more exciting Embedded IoT capabilities around Device Management to you via Early Adopter Care (EAC) and enable more Cumulocity features inside of APM:

1. Directly connecting to smart devices and gateways to APM is now faster and easier :

This helps organizations tackle the challenges of fragmented IoT landscapes and scale their connected asset ecosystem with reduced risk and cost.

2. A user-friendly experience for reliability engineers to interact and visualize with IoT-enabled assets :

  • Personalized, no-code/low-code dashboards and reports.
  • Interact directly with assets for remote operations.
  • Ready-to-use widget collections for typical IoT use-cases.

With this unified view, Cockpit, reliability engineers can act faster and make smarter decisions without jumping between tools.

3. Contextualize the IoT data bridge between the IoT/OT with the SAP S/4HANA asset data model:

  • Model IoT devices in Cumulocity and technical objects in SAP Cloud ERP.
  • Map data points (sensors/tags) to APM indicators.

Lower integration costs with a prepackaged, GUI-driven experience called Digital Twin Manager to empower data ops and reliability engineers.  This feature will also be further enhanced in an upcoming release.

To take advantage of these new innovations for testing and production, please raise a ticket to request early access.  With closer collaboration with the product engineering team, EAC enables two-way communication, transparency, and allows stakeholders to minimize project risk.

I’d also like to give you a quick preview of what’s to come on the product roadmap:

4. Real-time asset condition monitoring

  • Reliability engineers can define streaming rules using a GUI without relying on IT or data scientists.
  • The system continuously processes live data to detect conditions, calculate KPIs and trigger alerts, emails and event IoT response.

This Streaming Analytics capability enables a shift from reactive to proactive maintenance with minimal latency and dramatically improved reaction time in case of critical asset conditions.  Please stay tuned for more on this upcoming capability in the community.
