PACG connector Add on upgrade process in SAP FSM

Purpose:

This blog aims to describe the process for the Service pack Add on upgrade (recommended by Proaxia) in SAP FSM.

Introduction:

What is Proaxia?

Proaxia is the intellectual property owner and developer of the SAP FSM Cloud Connector, as well as an implementation partner of multiple SAP FSM installations with SAP ECC/S4 Integrations from 10 to 1000+ users.

How is the Communication set up?

The SAP FSM Cloud connector is a combination of an ABAP Add-on and a Message Broker (that acts as a middleware between SAP S/4 and SAP FSM cloud systems).

For the purpose of communication to and from the Message Broker, Webservices are used.

(In order to have simplicity and conciseness of the content, we would skip the basics of Connector set up and Message broker installation)

What is a Service pack?

• A Service pack is basically a configurable package of features released quarterly in a year, by Proaxia. It is usually accompanied by a compatible Message broker version upgrade.
• The requirement to upgrade a Service pack to the latest version is necessitated to keep a consistency with the current version widely used by the other customers and have a continued support as recommended by Proaxia (as and when a new Service pack version is released).
• The new features can include the implementation of relevant SAP Notes and/or configuration changes.
• Additionally, there are some versions that also include new transaction codes (along with the requirements to update the roles and authorizations to access the same) and the previous transaction codes being obsoleted.

Steps to update SAP FSM Add on:

Prerequisite: Before the start of the add on upgrade, a full system backup is ensured to be completed. This enables the system to be restored from latest backup taken, in the case of any issues.

1. Download of the Service pack Add on files (from the Proaxia Portal available here extracted from a ZIP file) by the System Administrator team.
2. As soon as the SAP FSM Add on component is installed, SPAU and SPDD steps (that enable adding the modifications as a part of the Upgrade in the SAP standard objects) are performed by the technical team.
3. Login to the Message Broker server and stop the Service.

7. Select ‘Background process’ to execute addon upgrade in background mode:

9. Click ‘Yes’:

11. The Background jobs are displayed:

12. Once the job gets executed successfully, perform SPDD adjustment:
