Manage characterstics as custom fields in Fiori apps

Overview:

The business use case/ requirement which usually is requested by almost all organizations using variant configuration as a core solution in their processes is to have these VC characteristics very easily available across many reporting/monitoring tools specifically while monitoring production orders. As a result, we tend to add an enhancement in transactions COOIS/COHV to aid this. As Fiori’s adoption with S4 increases and with SAP recommending clean core to clients globally, we as consultants will need to fall back on low-code/no-code functionalities to manage such customer specific requirements. To address this requirement, we can use two Fiori apps in tandem to add these characteristics in Fiori app “manage production orders”. Manage production orders Fiori app can be used to monitor/manage the overall shop floor activities.

Pre-requisites:

• Configurable Material master & other manufacturing related master data are already setup
• Fiori apps “Manage Characteristics as custom fields(F4337)”, “Custom fields(F1481)”, “Manage production orders(F2336)” are already activated & required authorizations available
• Configuration profile for KMAT has been setup with “Advanced variant configuration”
• Sales order & production is created for the configurable material

Steps to create custom field & adding the field to Fiori app:

Step 1: Create characteristics as a custom field:

• Open app Manage Characteristics as custom fields, for adding custom fields to Manage production order app, we need to use business context “PRODUCTION_ORDER_CFE”

• Toggle to details & click on edit & add a characteristic, below example, I have added characteristics – COLOUR & save. After saving, wait for some time to allow the system to publish, the field status needs to change to “ready to use”

Step 2 – Extend data source to add the custom field:

• Open Fiori app “Custom fields & Logic”, go to tab “data source extensions” & click on the plus button to add an extension

• Add the field “Colour” by selection

• Save & publish

Step 3: Display the added field in app “Manage production orders”

• Open app manage production orders, now the column for the added charactrstics is available

Conclusion:

The Fiori app “manage characteristics as custom fields” is a powerful tool for the functional consultants to add in the fields in the Fiori apps. This app also provides a functionality to add batch characteristics to the app for managing batches, which is also will find many use cases in the batch managed production industries.
