There are two types of staging processes namely:

1)      Single order staging

2)      Cross order staging

1) Single Order Staging:

Single Order Staging is a logistics and supply chain management concept where the process of preparing and staging inventory for a single order is executed. This process involves gathering, organizing, and preparing the items specified in a single customer order before they are dispatched for delivery. Single Order Staging is particularly important for order fulfillment and ensures that each order is processed accurately and efficiently. In SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), single-order staging allows users to request that components be staged for a specific order. This involves moving components from a warehouse to a production supply area (PSA).

2) Cross Order Staging:

Cross Order Staging is a logistics strategy used to optimize the handling and preparation of multiple orders simultaneously. Unlike Single Order Staging, which focuses on preparing one order at a time, Cross Order Staging involves organizing and staging items from multiple orders together in a way that can improve efficiency and reduce overall handling time. For cross-order staging, the system proposes a quantity for staging for each component that is required on the PSA. The system considers only PMRs with the status Released. You can create warehouse tasks for the replenishment with a different quantity to the quantity proposed by the system.

Process Order:

A Process Order is a term commonly used in manufacturing and production environments, particularly in industries that use process-based production methods, such as chemical, pharmaceutical, or food and beverage industries. It refers to a detailed plan or instruction set for producing a specific quantity of a product, typically involving multiple steps or stages in the production process.

PMR:

In SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM), a production material request (PMR) is a document that contains information about the materials required for a manufacturing order. This information includes the products, quantities, production supply areas, and dates for which the materials will be staged. The PMR is created in SAP EWM after a manufacturing order is created and released in the ERP system. The PMR acts as a link between production planning and extended warehouse management, and is essential for efficient production.

Staging:

Staging refers to the process of preparing and organizing goods or materials in a designated area or staging location within a warehouse before they are either shipped out to customers, used in production, or moved to another location within the warehouse. Staging is a crucial step in warehouse management and inventory handling as it helps to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and ensure that goods are ready for the next phase in the supply chain.
