SRM Organization Structure questions.

Hi,

SRM Organization Structure questions.

  1. We are using SRM 7.02 with Classic Scenario.  Initially we had thought of setting up a typical organization structure which would include setting up the Company code and create the purchasing organizations and assign purchasing groups to the PORGS.  Then to assign employees from the different departments, we were going to create additional nodes for the departments.   We have since realised that we do not need to create additional nodes for departments.  This is because all the users / requisitioners in SRM system are also going to be the buyers.  Thus we are thinking in the SRM organizational structure, we want to assign these same users to the purchasing group nodes in SRM directly without creating additional department nodes.  We have done some tests and this seems to work.  Are their any implications we should be concerned about?
  2. Second question.  In MM backend we have a single purchasing organization assigned a single company code.  We also have a Central purchasing organization which does the global procurement, and this is represented by the Purchasing Reference Organization.  This buys for any company code or purchasing org.  How can we set up a reference purchasing org / Global procurement in SRM so that it can carry out procurement across different company codes.  I have been looking at this and it does not seem possible.  Anyone worked with this or something similar?

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

That is what I also found - you have to define new separate purchasing groups for each purchasing organization if we have to implement centralised purchasing in SRM.  But currently we have not yet defined separate purchasing groups.  That could be the final recommendation if no other option comes up.

Does anyone have an answer to my first question?  Thanks again.

Hi Joseph,

For your 2nd question we have buyers that purchase for multiple company code / pu orgs.  But in SRM you have to assign a separate pu group for each pu org.  That is the biggest difference between SRM and ECC in that in ECC the pu group is not assigned to pu org.  So basically a buyer will have multiple pu groups that they will be responsible for in srm.  If someone has found something different I would love to hear.

Thanks,

Jeff
