Hi,
I went through several blogs on CIG Add on/ARIBA CIG and need some clarifications w.r.t Buyer scenario.
P.S: My queries are purely based on the understanding that I gathered from blogs and not with hands-on experience with ARIBA CIG implementation.

Vishal
Hello mate,
I guess I can help you some of my understanding.
1. Let imagine the Addon is a packing of coding that already done with setup inside, now you install that Addon into your ecc/s4hana then it will provide your ecc some interface that you can consume to send data to Ariba. Particularly, once Addon installed, you will see the distinctive inside either idoc segment or xml, those thing are required by CIG.
2. As said in solution documentation issued by Ariba, there is no middleware is required. From your point that #3, yes, CIG will act as a translator from external message into cXML which basically is language of Ariba Network, then clearly that CIG is enough.
But nice to have cause some case from my exp with Ariba CIG integration, I see middleware very useful and help me out many scenarios.
Connectivity, monitoring or exceptional handling, these thing I believe not need have to use middleware, CIG transaction tracker is available for monitoring, connectivity is 1 time setting and definitely test tool on CIG is able to handle connection testing and also transaction tracker can tell you what is going on with connection. Exceptional handling either. What myself went thru is middleware can flexible what CIG does not support due to its globally feature, e.g enhancement on outbound, inbound data, mapping, truncate string...
Hope this help.
Eugene.

Hope this bigger picture helps. Moreover, check https://help.sap.com/viewer/product/SAP%20Ariba%20Cloud%20Integration%20Gateway/CIG_2019_07/en-US
There you would be able to read that you need to install the add-on and SAP Cloud Platform cloud connector!
