My partner has a VAN, do I mandatorily need a VAN as well?

Hello,

One of our Partners is using a 3rd party VAN for EDI. Do we mandatorily need to have a VAN as well (maybe not the same one) to be able to exchange with him? Or can we use other direct integration solution like APIs to exchange with his VAN?

Not sure about mandatorily you need to have a VAN or not. I think for this you may confirm from your legal concern or any other concern who is dealing with this.

Independently from the legal concern, I wanted to check if technically a VAN like SAP Ariba for instance allows configurations where only my customer is registered on it and not me. I would in that case exchange with him through my own integration APIs directly with his instance account of Ariba SAP.
