Is there a way to track BOM heirarchy and supplier heirarchy together

We have a unique situation where we want to track BOM Product heirachy and corresponding supplier heirarchy together in such a way that if one of our supplier in a specific area goes out of business or has some production issues, we can determine its impact on our entire production tree for various products corresponding to plants.

Also some of our products don't have a product number associated with it because they are very base level raw materials eg. fodder for cattle in south africa. How do we add such products without product number to the BOM?

Kindly provide some inputs

Hello Sriram,

  1. To my knowledge - there is no direct linkage between product or product hierarchy to supplier or supplier hierarchy unless you use source list in SAP. Source list act as
    1. define a source of supply over a fixed period of time
    2. define a source of supply as blocked
    3. aid in selecting preferred source of supply
    4. block the external procurement of a material
  2. How do you track the products without product numbers?

Please provide more information for Q2.

Thanks

HI K P,

Thank you for the answer to the first question. Can you please tell me from which TCode I can set the source of supply as blocked? If I block a source of supply is there a report that I can run which will tell me which all parts in a BOM will be affected by it? (can you please give me the TCode for the report?

In case of second question. As I gave in my example fodder for cattle is not defined in our system as a part number and it wont make sense to do so either. However, if there is a draught in lets say South Africa, there will be no fodder for the cattle hence the supply of Milk (this has a part number in our system) will be affected. So how do we track fodder in our BOM  without giving it a part number

Hi K P,

Just to clarify one thing, when you said "define the source of supply as blocked", you meant this to simulate the situation where the supplier has gone out of business right?

Hello Sriram,

Yes, could be. The other possible reason I can think of is that - the Financial Performance of the particular supplier is not good or the quality of the supplier deliverables are not good enough etc..,

Thanks
