Hi expert,

Need your advice about this Unicode requirement in SAP in the technical check list. We just did a check again and realized that Kaneka SAP system is not on Unicode yet.

I would like to get advices from you on what will be the impact if this is not activated, i.e. interface error, etc.

Thanks.

TS

Hi Prem,

We are facing the same issue / question. Non-unicode ERP system. Strategically no plans to perform an unicode conversion. English / Dutch language used. Will this work with CIG?

Thanks & regards,

Bart

Hi,

The other two deployments I have seen decided to not make the conversion and did not face any issues during the deployment. They were using only English language.

The risk you are taking if you decide to deploy without unicode conversion is that tickets/defects related to unicode will not be supported by SAP support.

Hello TS,

Please take a look here:

https://jam4.sapjam.com/questions/k9Lagi7eHTCd7r0soY1Bdb

https://jam4.sapjam.com/questions/NpTGyWABYmstmBfcKqiu2W

Unicode requirement is stated in SAP CIG installation guide here:

https://help.sap.com/viewer/1b1724b5f3e248568430b640c0412c24/2006/en-US/93fbb3e47c6a410e87198b96cad7...

The impact of implementing non-unicode SAP system has not been documented yet. I will check internally around lessons learnt or potential impact and will revert.

Hi Prem,

Thanks for the info, Run thru the URL link, basically, that means SAP ERP must be Unicode ready.

Hi Prem,

Please check with your internal team that if the customer only uses English language in SAP ERP and SAP Ariba. Is this Unicode is still necessary? I am thinking that we can go ahead with the English language system implementation and then later get the customer to upgrade their ERP to be unicode ready in the next implementation.

Thanks.
