Central Procurement & Ariba Network communication

With On-primise Central Procurement deployment with connected multiple backend ERP systsems (ECC and S/4 HANA), what is recommendated senario integration with Ariba Network for exposing procurement order (Purchase Orders) and consuming Order confirmation? Central Procurement communication with Ariba Network or Backend connection with Ariba Network.

once I saw a landscape for a different solution with mdg and ariba:

MDG needed the CIG addon installed and ariba, through/with CIG activated, was communicating to a cloud connector capable of exposing MDG services
