Hi there and welcome to my blog. 

My name is Filiz Yasar, I am one of the Solution Value Advisors based in the Netherlands.  The world of procurement is continuously evolving, and with it are the tools and technologies aimed at optimizing organizational spend.  Here, I am excited to present my blog on how artificial intelligence can elevate the user experience in SAP Ariba.

By following these steps and ensuring all prerequisites are met, you can effectively get started with Joule in SAP Ariba applications, enhancing your operational efficiency through AI-powered interactions.

Prerequisites

    • Ensure you have a license for one or more SAP Ariba applications (Guided Buying, Guided Sourcing, Supplier Management) in a supported data center. The currently supported data centers are listed here.
    • You need an enterprise global account on SAP BTP. Joule leverages BTP to simplify complex integration landscapes.
    • Integrate the SAP Ariba application with Identity Authentication as Joule leverages the Identity Authentication Service (IAS) setup.
    • Configure the navigation service of SAP Build Work Zone to support navigation to different applications from Joule and handle role-based access scenarios.
    • Create a subaccount in your global account using the SAP BTP cockpit for provisioning Joule.

Steps to Activate Joule

    • Enable either the Joule Base SKU (8019544) or the Joule Premium SKU (8019164) from the SAP Store.
    • Ensure the necessary BTP services are setup and configured, including:

Available Features

    • Provides knowledge-based results from SAP applications, such as SAP Help Documentation.
    • Document Grounding allows uploading customer-owned content for FAQs and policies.
    • Navigate SAP applications using natural language queries.
    • Open applications in new browser tabs with conversation history.
    • Direct entry point to backend systems for tasks like purchase order approvals, job positions creation, etc.

 

Available Skills

  • Guided Buying:
    • Transactional: Get status of purchase requisition, show recent PRs, show approvers of PR, etc.
    • Navigational: View requisition.
  • Guided Sourcing:
    • Transactional: List sourcing events, return RFx status, send reminder emails, etc.
    • Navigational: Go to My Tasks, Go to Sourcing Event.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Transactional: Show primary contact information of supplier, list suppliers in registration/invited status.
  • Multi-Language Support
  • Joule supports multiple languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Greek, and Polish.

Costing

  • All the mentioned Joule skills are part of Joule base and will not be charged any AI units.

 

Limitations (as of Q3 2025 Release)

  • Multi-ERP Setup Issue:
    • Joule does not currently support multi-tenant consolidation. Run Joule Booster in every child realm to overcome this limitation.
