Cross delivery handling unit means a packing box (like carton) containing products from multiple deliveries as shown in below image. Carton P contains product A and B from two deliveries X and Y respectively. Cross delivery handling unit is very effective for small parts, optimization of packing etc.

Cross delivery handling unit is supported in SAP Extended warehouse management (EWM). Capability for cross handling unit for Transportation management ( TM ) and Extended warehouse management (EWM) with Transportation unit (TU) is supported from SAP S/4HANA 2021 release . Refer my blog https://community.sap.com/t5/enterprise-resource-planning-blog-posts-by-members/cross-delivery-handl....

Advanced shipping & receiving (ASR) is a new solution for integration between Transportation management ( TM ) and Extended warehouse management (EWM) in SAP S/4HANA. ASR eliminates the requirement of Transportation unit (TU) in EWM and LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) or web service communication between TM & EWM. This new ASR solution was introduced in FPS1 of SAP S/4HANA 2020 release and is evolving with S/4HANA releases. Refer my SAP Press book https://www.sap-press.com/introducing-advanced-shipping-and-receiving-asr-in-sap-s4hana_5836/ and blog https://www.linkedin.com/posts/mrinalkroy_ewm-tm-s4hana-activity-6996835047068610560-e3V7?utm_source... for more details on ASR.

Cross delivery handling unit is not supported in ASR too from S/4HANA 2025 release. My present blog is to describe the functionality of cross delivery handling unit in ASR .

Two outbound deliveries (80004555 and 80004556) relevant for ASR have been depicted in below image.

These deliveries are blocked for warehouse execution as in below image as they are transportation driven (i.e will be blocked till the relevant freight order is set for ‘Ready for warehouse execution’.

Freight order 6600000909 is now created with freight units created from those deliveries and then set of ‘Ready for warehouse execution’ . Subsequently EWM outbound deliveries also got released for warehouse execution as depicted in below image.

A handling unit 812345678000001816     is created packing both the items (products) from those deliveries as displayed in below image .

This handling unit then gets displayed as ‘Cross -D HU’ as highlighted in below image for both deliveries.

Both of the EWM outbound deliveries then need to be ‘Set to ready for shipping’.

As these deliveries have a single handling unit , both of the deliveries need to be selected for ‘Set to ready for shipping’ . otherwise error as in below image appears if a single delivery is chosen.

Handling unit then appears in freight order as in below image.

Handling unit is subsequently loaded to the truck and ‘Post’ or Goods issue is executed.

One of the pre-requisites for cross handling unit is that the consolidation group needs to be same , otherwise below error appears.

This blog is based on my personal tests , observations , insights in S/4HANA 2025 release. Will appreciate your feedback / comments.
