Business Meets Football: Insights from an Inspiring Discussion

On February 16, 2025, SAP hosted the Networking Female Leader Event at the FCB Campus in Munich – a powerful initiative by SAP Marketing, SAPBWNMunich, and SAP Women in Tech, highlighting leadership, teamwork, and diversity.

One of the most exciting moments was the panel discussion "What Do Football and Business Have in Common?", where I had the pleasure of joining Bianca “Jay” Rech (FC Bayern) and Michaela Schulz to explore the similarities between team dynamics in sports and successful collaboration in business. The discussion made it clear that team spirit, strategy, and leadership are crucial both on the field and in the corporate world.

Another highlight was the opportunity to exchange ideas with inspiring experts:
Maša Schmidt shared valuable insights on leadership and growth.
Tatiana Voytsenko introduced Personalized Fan Engagement in Real Time, offering an innovative take on marketing strategies.

Beyond these thought-provoking conversations, the event provided a unique networking experience in a relaxed atmosphere – topped off with an exclusive meet & greet with FC Bayern Munich players.

My 3 Key Takeaways:

  1. Success is a team effort – In both football and business, clear roles, trust, and communication are the foundation of winning strategies. No one succeeds alone.
  2. Mental strength is a game-changer – High performers in sports and business need resilience and the ability to make the right decisions under pressure.
  3. Diversity drives performance – Different perspectives lead to stronger strategies and more innovative solutions – whether on the pitch or in the boardroom.

What parallels do you see between sports and business? How have teamwork and leadership shaped your success? Let’s discuss!

Great concept, Verena - thank you for sharing it!

One parallel I've come to realize in recent years is that being a part of a productive and healthy team means that WE ARE NEVER ALONE. We may feel like certain tasks/initiatives are our alone and that we must figure them out on our own but that is not the case. Consult with your 'team mates', get other perspectives, let them help you! Most people are more than willing to take a look and give feedback. That support can mean the difference between delivering and not delivering so when you get stuck or just want another set of eyes/ears turn to your team!
