What is the benefit of SAP Certification?

I am doing job in a bank for last 9 years. My qualification is Batchelor of Commerce, Master of Economics & Finance. My job experience includes general banking, credit analysis, banking policies review etc. Now I want to switch my career and adopt SAP consultancy as career. But the problem is that I have certain responsiblities towards my family i.e., parents, wife and 3 kids and I can't afford heavy training fees as well as interruption in my regular income. Would you like to comment on my following questions?

1) How should I take start in the SAP World?

2) Is expertise in one module like Financial Accounting or Management Accounting will be sufficient?

3) If training and certification will be sufficient for me to get a job?

4) How can I manage smooth switch of my career without interruption in my income?

Your valuable inputs can be really benefit me.

Hi,

You're making a wise choice - SAP is the place to be. Interesting work, good money, amazing opportunities, great community.

I'm sure you'll get all kinds of advice, but here's my take:

- build up experience in your chosen field (finance - you've already done this)

- do some basic SAP training (eg one or two weeks to grasp the basics)

- apply for finance jobs in large organizations that you know are running SAP; in the interview tell

them how interested you are in SAP, and that you've taken independent training

- once employed, work your way into the SAP group by making your interest clear.

There is no need to do extensive training at this stage, and certainly no need for certification.

The sensible sequence is: training, experience, SAP certification.

Hello Shahzad,

first Question came in mind after reading your details that, why this person want to join SAP after having 9 years of experience in Bank, Then i thought, he must be interested to work with SAP, dream kind of, but then i saw about responsibility.. Then second thought came to my mind may be because he must thinking in SAP he will got good salary. Hmmm this is correct but in SAP field some how you will be like a fresher, so 9 year banking salary and current SAP salary.. No comparison..

As all suggested, As you are currently a bank employee, so you must have some knowledge of Banking, finance..So i you really want to come to in SAP, then start your career with FICO.

Ya , this time you are very correct, but before this, please take some basic training for SAP, like how to use it, some basic syntax, using of Tcode etc. Just a week training. 

3) If training and certification will be sufficient for me to get a job?

No, Training and certification is like a asset in your resume. See training is mandatory for you, and if you do certification as well then you will be preferable candidate for the position.

4) How can I manage smooth switch of my career without interruption in my income?

Why don't you to try learning some concept of SAP by own. Explore on Google. Learn some concept of SAP, Syntax of SAP. you must having some friend working in SAP field, take their help. Follow the SCN for the same. It will help you a lot. and do take so much pain for Certification now. For a time being you can avoid this. So first Training and then Job and then Certification.

Coming to your Questions :

My Suggestion will Be better to Stay in your  Current field only, Because with certification also no one can guarantee you that job is conformed.

If you are more keen to come into SAP  you need to put  more efforts , and daily practices in relevant module  you selected.

Coming to module : FI is good for you.
