First, thank you University Alliances for proving a place to communicate directly with other Students!

Fellow students, this is a great area for you to ask your questions. I have found there are many active SDN members very willing to help students begin their careers in SAP. All you have to do is ask, they will at least point you in the right direction.

Just as the forum suggests, share your ideas with others to continue the growth in the UA community. I would be interested in hearing students past or upcoming SAP related projects too!

Regards,

Kevin

Hi,

I recently graduated from college this past May. I am interested in learning about SAP. I was wondering what is the best way of learning about the software. Is there any classes anyone can recommend in the United States? I have no prior experience with the software SAP. I am interested in the field of supply chain management.

THANK YOU!!!

Kevin,

Hi! Nice to hear from you! We forward to seeing nice dialogue between students, recent graduates and other professionals from around the world. Yes, check out our section on certification and TERP10 () and an interesting blog from an adjunct professor friend, Art Worster. Check out the interesting jobs in the UA Career Center.

If you need more information than let us know!

Best regards,

Richard

You can contact SAP's education centers regarding training courses.

It is usefull to have a lucky and hand's on break early in SAP. Just reading documents is not enough. Try to get onto a project where a guru can supervise you to get started.

Or write your thesis on something revolutionary and win some award for it from SAP - don't accept points for it, go for a job offer

Cheers,

Julius

Or you can start exploring the world of SAP yourself. There are plenty ways how to start. Or products to start with.

It is very important (in my opinion) to share how many SAP products are available as trials so one could easily start at home. Well not as many products ad I would like to have (like PI/XI trial and more...), but enough for a newcomer.

Especially check ABAP trial, if you´re interested in the ABAP development. Or there are some Java resources for those who are interested in Java or have previous Java experience and would like to use it in the enterprise world (I wrote a short blog about it...).

Of course there are the businessobjects trials, which are very fancy (colors and stuff) and will be demanded in the future, I think. So one could easily start with dashboarding and get ready for a minute where his boss asks him/her to present his/her result in the fancy way...

So I always tell people: yes, go for a training or certification. But to make sure your money won´t be wasted, start at home, and use your paid time for asking difficult questions - the ones you were not able to resolve at home by yourself.

I would completely agree with what Otto said. You should research SDN and find easy tutorials to become somewhat familiar with SAP's terminology. Then I would highly recommend SAP TERP 10 (Business Process) certification. I am currently taking the two week certification and I'm learning a lot of new information.

I would encourage you to continue pursuing SAP, in Supply Chain it would only make you more valuable to any company.

It has been a while since I was at university, but it is still unimaginable for me to open a student lounge without throwing a huge party with loud music and cold beers?
