Hello All,

I live in Canada near toronto. I have 2-3 years experience in sales and marketing. Now I want to learn SAP and start my career in SAP. I want to do certification in Sales and Distribution module. But I want to know after being certified in SD what are the future opportunities ? How would I be able to get into this field by getting hands on experience ? how to get training in SAP SD ? Is it possible for beginners to get job placement easily ?

Looking forward to get valuable information from you,

Thanks

Regards

Omer

Hi Omer,

I currently live in Brazil, but I´ve been to Canada a while ago and I could get a feeling of how the industry works there for SAP.

Just like here, there are several open positions, but mostly for senior professionals, which make Trainee/Junior positions very competitive.

Something that needs to be mentioned is that even if you have previous professional experience in a related field, when you try to enter the SAP industry, you become Trainee or Junior again, but you have great chances of reaching higher seniority quicker than those that doesn´t have any experience. Take me as a good example. I´m a programmer for almost 10 years for different languages. Then I decided to study ABAP, I´ve gotten certified, but I only could get a job as Junior.

So, the best - but the hardest - way to get there, as mentioned above by the user

Hi Omer,

after being certified in SD you can find a job in a support team for SD. I would try to get first in a big company, to get colleagues, who can help you when you get stuck. Solving everyday issues, will get you in business. Training of SAP is basis, but real live experience is the real world 😉

Training in SAP SD you can get at SAP, but it expensive if you need to pay this by your own.

If you first start in a company, you can get training on the job or if your company is investing in you, you get SAP training at SAP.

For beginners you can get a job also without certification, and learn it as junior between your colleagues. When you want to learn, and you are persistent, you will make it !

Good Luck !

Hi Omer,

That's so nice of you entering SAP world. I have read the thread on this post and I absolutely agree with all their feedback. I've been to a different offshore institution with SAP ERP system implemented, support and under implementation. I haven't tried to get a certification yet but I'm eager and interested to get a certification later on. I don't want to put myself to a war without a weapon. I need to learn more about the focused module for SAP. Its great to start in a business with SAP before moving towards the certification to learn about the technical and analytical specification in using the SAP.

Goodluck!

Thanks,

Arnold

Hi Shafiq,

I think you can do the certification in Canada with out Class room training, only you need to pay the exam fee. Otherwise you can join in any authorised training center like AtoS or Genovate or any authorized training center in Canada.

Comining into oppurtinuties for the freshers as many people suggested, openings are less for fresher

Yes it is right. but  for certifed freshers may be it takes time, please concentrate on subject and get the good command over the subject, 100% you will get the job.If you really intersted in SAP career.

All the best.

thanks,

Srinivas.

Hi, Omer,

Two ways to enter the SAP industry!

One way is to try to join a company which has implemented or is implementing SAP ERP.You will get trained in it.

The other way is to find the trainee opportunity which consulting compay will offer . You will have the best training environment.

Hi, Omer and Alex,

I totally agree with Alex in how to enter into the SAP world.

May i suggest you to pursuit the second alternative. it would make it easier for you to grasp all the knowledge involve in this module. The academy would give you a nice overview but it wont be enough.

Regardless you should always be on the lookout for a self train experience. For me this the best way to become competitive.

Hello Omer,

Good to hear that you are persuing for a career in SAP-SD(Sales & Distribution). As you are already having pretty good experinece in sales and marketing, it will somewhat easy for you to understand the business concepts.
Inorder to start with SAP-SD, you need to know most of the basic concepts and terms in SD like- Company Code, Sales Organisation,Pricing,Output etc.

You can get n number of materials online. Also you will have to understand the process flow occuring in each scenario. You will be able to relate it with your experience you have in sales domain. You will aslo need to learn about the set up(Configurations) that has been done in SAP System to make theses scenarios working in system.
Once you are thorough with the basics, hands on exeperience is what you will need next.
And about certification,to get SAP SD certification you need to be completely thorough with the SAP SD, which you can attain once you get real experience in this domain.

Here are few links, which can help you with SAP SD basic training:

Hi Omer,

It is good that you have sales domain experience. You certainly can learn SAP and move to become SAP SD functional consultant. You can join some good authentic training institutions and get trained. But I think SAP training is bit costly. Some institutions will offer to provide for certifications after training. But getting certification alone will not guarantee a job. Its always good to get into some project/company in which you can work on SAP projects, get some hands on experience for 2-3 years before you can opt for certification.

Hands on experience in implementation/support/roll-out/enhancements projects has higher weight age

Certification will be an added advantage.
