UA Professors in North America:

Does your campus have an offical SAP student user group, ERP special interest group or similar? If you do, please post with a brief description of what that group is / does.

In the next month I would like to organize a conference call for the schools with these SIGs to understand what member schools are doing, how the groups are organized, how the groups are (or are not) affiliated with your SAP initiative on campus, what works / doesn't work for your students and so on. Students at member schools have more and more interest in starting these groups - and we'd like to be ready to share best practices! Our colleagues at ASUG are interested in this topic as well, and will join us for the call.

Thanks for sharing!

Best Regards,

Heather

Central Michigan University has remained active since Dr. Andera's last post (9/29/10). We fulfilled our goal of visiting Cargil and 3M this past March 2013 in ST. Paul/ Minneapolis.I attached a couple pictures of our visits to 3M & Cargil. It was a very rewarding experience that allowed us to present our program to each company in depth. This trip taught us as group many things. We have also gone to multiple ASUG meetings including Grand Rapids, and Detroit. We are currently invited to the ASUG-Illinois Meeting on Nov 1 at Harper College, and will be hosting an event in the fall here on CMU's campus in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

As a group we have weekly meetings including guest speakers and SAP TERP10 training sessions. Our group has now reached 100+ students and continues to grow each year. There are many things we are doing that attract new students.

For instance, this past year the Information Management Institute here on campus conducted the 1st annual ERPSim. An annual invitation only competition challenging the best ERPsim teams in a competition to determine which team has developed and implemented the best business strategy for the ERPsim Game.  Twenty teams of four students and one mentor competed head-to-head for the Top Honor of ERPsim Champion. The top five teams were rewarded with scholarship money and plaques.

So to answer your question, Central Michigan University currently has a very active SAP UASUG , and it only continues to grow!

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask, I am the president of the group here at CMU and would love to help you. Just email me at babbo1mw@cmich.edu

Michael,

I'm SO happy to brought this thread to life again!  It is exciting to hear about all the great things your SAP student is doing at Central Michigan - congratulations.

I encourage all members of your SAP student group to join the University Alliances Student Council (register here).  The council is an easy way for students to connect with SAP to learn about the many opportunities available to:

  • Join competitions (ConnectedCar, Utilities of Tomorrow and App Rumble to name a few),
  • Receive SAP event tickets (CodeJam, Startup Forums, TechEd),
  • Influence apps and other resources developed for students
  • Network with like-minded students around the world

Please join us!

Best Regards,

Heather

I'm very excited to hear a UA interest in student groups!! As a current member of Grand Valley's Enterprise Systems Student Union (ESSU), I would like to extend an offer in anyway we can help.

This summer I wrote a short blog about my [ideas on UAC Student Union|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/19925] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken]; and I'm glad to see progress in this area!

Central Michigan University has a very active SAP University Alliance Student User Group (UASUG). The group was first formed in 1998. Membership in the group represents all of the disciplines in the College of Business Administration including, accounting, information systems, finance, management, marketing, and economics. This past year, the students were invited to present at the ASUG-Michigan and ASUG-Illinois meetings. They made 50-minute presentations at each event, followed by a question and answer session. The ASUG membership was very impressed with the professionalism of this group and appreciated their attendance. Each semester, the students travel to companies and the students prefer to travel out of state. This past year, the students went to visit John Deere in Moline, Illinois; Harley-Davidson and Miller/Coors Brewing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Quaker Oats and All State in Chicago, Illinois. This year, the students have set a goal to visit the ASUG-Minnesota chapter meeting and also visit 3M and Cargil. The student group is very active during the semester with fund raising to support travel and with student group meetings where an invited guest speaker is the featured activity. They also are active in providing serious study sessions prior to the SAP TERP10 Certification Academies. These advanced study sessions have been a real asset according to those who have taken the TERP10 exam.

Grand Valley State University has a cross-disciplinary student chapter, the Enterprise Systems Student Union (ESSU). This organization was formed a couple of years ago in response to students' request for a cross-disciplinary organization (vs. discipline-focused organizations).

Visit our program portal at http://www.gvsu.edu/business/erp/

Then go to the Students tab

There is a brief description of the organization and a link to their Facebook group page.

This group is not affiliated with any umbrella organization because most are discipline-focused.

I don't think ASUG has student chapters. Is that right?

Perhaps the UAP should consider developing an umbrella organization or at least facilitate the development of student organizations and communication and collaboration among them?

Central Michigan University has a student SAP user group. It may be an ASUG student chapter. I know tha tthey have attended Chicago area ASUG meetings in the past.

We involve students in our East Tennessee ASUG chapter events. I would love to evolve this into an ASUG student chapter, but I've been told that so far ASUG isn't set up to support that. Maybe sometime soon. We have an ACM chapter on campus and have contemplated starting an AITP chapter or similar. ASUG would be a better match and of much more interest.
