Hi Guys,

I studied BSc (hons) in software engineering. I got opportunity for SAP IDM consultant (Back end).

I have some doubts,

  1. Is this position similar to Software Engineering side?
  2. Are SAP IDM consultant and SAP Security consultant, will they do same work?
  3. What are the coding languages we need to use? (AS JAVA, JavaScript, Linux scripting, SQL?)
  4. What are the responsibility / tasks we need to do? (Creating UI/UX interface?)
  5. What is the career path for SAP IDM Consultant (back end)?
  6. What are the certification do I need to do?

Guide me!

Hi Nirojan,

With IDM you mean Identity Management? As abbreviations and acronyms can mean many things, always best to spell it out once. Internet Download Manager, Intelligent Dance Music, ...

  1. Software engineering = development. Identity management concerns security administration. Different personas
  2. Yes. Security consultant is more broadly defined. User (identity) management is one aspect.
  3. Not a coding job. Shell scripting (bash, PowerShell) and OS (Linux) skills might be useful.
  4. From wikipedia: Identity management, also known as identity and access management, is a framework of policies and technologies to ensure that the right users have the appropriate access to technology resources. IdM systems fall under the overarching umbrellas of IT security and data management.
  5. Chief information officer (CIO), chief security officer (CSO), chief information security officer (CISO), ...
  6. There are no SAP certifications for this product/services. You can check the available of the certifications at training.sap.com/certification/validity.
