Hi All,
I'm wondering if someone can assist me here with 2 queries on SAP. I've been interested in SAP for a while, and would like to find out more about both the admin-side, and the consulting side.
Bit of history: I come from both an engineering background (looking after enterprise environments, especially servers, storage, backups and virtualistion), and have been consulting in the same field for a couple of years now.
I'd like to know the following:
1. What training is required to become certified, and specialised in SAP consulting? It would be an extension of my role currently, and I am aware I need to start somewhere, so any advice would be appreciated. I know I'd start at K1 level and move up. Got no interest in "braindumping" or paper certs, and I am aware of the work behind it all.
2. What would be required to become an SAP Basis administrator?
I find the SAP certification site difficult to use at the best of times, and the local SAP education guys are either unreachable, or do not respond to voice mails/emails etc. I just need to get going on this.
Thanks!
Craig
Request clarification before answering.
Hi Craig
Sorry to hear you've not had any response from the local SAP Education teams. I work in a global role for SAP Education so may be able to help a little bit, but advice from your local team will probably be better - can you let me know where you're based? I can try and answer your questions briefly:
1) It will depend really on what area you want to consult in. We have application certifications available in all major areas, so there are a series of courses you could take if you were looking to get certified in Financial Accounting, Supply Chain Management etc There are a number of options you can take with SAP, either classroom courses, or online via an eAcademy or via SAP Learning Hub - this is a year long subscription to all SAP Education content including social learning.
2) Basis or System Administrator training is a little easier to explain. Again there are a series of courses you can take which lead up to a certification, in this case the exam is called C_TADM51_731 and you can find out more via this link:
https://training.sap.com/shop/certification/c_tadm51_731-sap-certified-technology-associate---system...
You can see in the Topic Areas section here the courses you would need to take, all together it's about 5-6 weeks worth of training.
Sorry that's not a completely comprehensive answer, but hopefully it gives you a bit of a start. If you can let me know where you're based I can try and get someone to contact you - feel free to contact me directly on here or send me a message.
Kind regards
Rob

Hi Rob,
Thanks. This is most helpful.
Since I come from a technical background I am interested in the technical-side of SAP (how it works, how you go through the Dev/Qas/PRD process etc), and believe that gaining an understanding here would really help me.
I can only see what looks like a single day course for the admin track, or are those individual courses at R3900 each that need to be done?
That said, I have a BA Honours in HR (which I don't use as I work in IT...go figure!) and this MIGHT be something to look at in terms of consulting. Are you able to point me in the right direction here?
In terms of the local SAP teams, I had SOME response, not much, and I am still waiting for an email to be answered from about 10 days ago. I've given up phoning the local guys and considered calling the UK instead.
So my 2 options are consulting and moving up the Kx stack (for which my company has a consulting arm in SAP), or administration (but travel here is an issue at the moment). Consulting might be the way to go.
I appreciate the help!
Cheers,
Craig
Hi Craig
Cheers for getting back to me. The Admin track is definitely more than just a day, the R3900 price is to sit the exam. If you look at the topic areas on that page you see you'd need to take courses in Database Administration, System Administration etc.. in South Africa you could take the TADM10 & TADM12 academy courses - click on the relevant link in the Topic Areas section for dates, prices etc.
In terms of HR, you'd be looking at a similar pattern to above, a series of courses followed by a certification, the relevant link is:
Again, this is just the exam, the courses you'd need to take are available in the Topic Areas. The Academy courses are THR10 & THR12 and are available in South Africa. As an alternative you can take this via an E-Academy or sign up to SAP Learning Hub (online content, not classroom).
If you're looking to take the courses in South Africa, you really need to speak to the guys there, let me know if you want me to try and get someone to contact you directly.. drop me a line directly on here with contact details.
Many thanks
Rob
Thanks Rob,
Something must have kicked into gear as I got an email from the local SAP guys.
I will revert back to dealing with them and find out about the e-learning as it would be a better fit for me right now. If I don't come right I will let you know.
Thanks for all the help...I find trying to get information on education/certification on the SAP site difficult, but I appreciate it.
Cheers,
Craig
