Hi Experts,
I have been working in SAP ABAP for last 2 years and worked extensively on following ares:
1. ALV reporting
2. Enhacnements- User exits, customer Exits
3. Function modules, Subroutines, BAPIs
4. Interfaces- ALE/IDOCs, LSMW, BDC
5. BASIS- user authorization, profiles, Roles maintainence
As we get the functional specification from SD, MM as input, i can understand the techincal fields and tables and hence the technical stuff i need to work on, however i am still struggling with the functional details.
e.g If I get a request to get the output of MD04 in normal report, I can very well use the predined FM MD_STOCK_REQUIREMENTS_LIST_API to extract the information in internal sturcture and hence create the output. But if somebody asks me about details of MD04, what this tcode s used for and what purpose does it serves in Material requirement, then i have no clues...
Now, I have been given an opportunity to grow my wings and get an SAP standard training. Now, broadly i have 3 options:
1. Get trained in new functional areas like SCM, SEM, CRM etc.
2. Get trained in new technical ares like Netweaver- BI, EP, XI.
3. Get trained in SAP - BASIS or SAP Web AS.
I would also like to know how about a transition from ABAP -> BI
Personally, I am pretty much inclined toward SAP Web AS as I am interested in database admin, web enabled interfaces...and one of my frnd who already got trained in SAP Web AS is working on Netweaver 2007 R&D (A1S, the product which SAP is going to launch very soon) and that's one of my fav area also.
Now, i want the reply from technical as well as functional consultants, which option out of the three i should go for. ....i will make a final decision after all your replies.
My fingers are crossed as you experts gonna decide my future tonight.
Thanks for your time in advance.
All the entries will be rewarded.
Regards,
Raman.

Having done the WEB AS Java and ABAP courses, I can recommend them for a career as a Netweaver Administrator. WIth your techncial background you should find it a breeze!
For the functional side, you need to understand the business requirements and processes, and not just tables and fields.
Every business does these things differently, but with the underlying core system the descision is based on O/S and Database!

Dear Raman:
I think we can help each other out. I am a functional consultant and want to know some technical details of field/user/customer exits and similar stuff. I can tell you important things about functional side. I can even help you with basic concepts so functional aspects will be crystal clear to you in a short period of time...things that take several years and gruelling experience to learn.
Are you willing to colloborate?
If yes, then please email me at saperpforums@yahoo.com
Thanks
