Buying SAP

Hi

Over the years students have requested information about how do companies buy SAP. This is difficult as the licencing process continually changes and the price companies pay is subject to a confidentiality agreement. SAP has created a tool to help mid size companies estimate the cost of implementation of SAP All In One. This is based on a pre-configured ECC system. I have supplied this tool to students so they can investigate what functionality is supplied and the estimated cost. The tool can be found at

http://www.sap.com/solutions/sme/businessallinone/configurator/index.epx

Another good tool which students should become familiar with is Solution Maps. These Solution Maps provide detail to the functionality and services included in SAP product offereings. They should be the first stop when trying to understand SAP offerings. A free tool SAP offers in the Solution Map Composer. Companies can use this tool to document what they have implemented and gain a better undertanding of what else is on offer. You can download Solution Map Composer at

Good luck

Dear Paul,

Do you have perhaps a paragraph or two for each of these links to introduce the topic to students? If so, we can use these together with the links you provided as two contributed curriculum exercises posted in our library in the Business Process and IT areas.

Let me know what you think.

These are splending ideas and our professors worldwide will really profit from visibility to them.

Thanks

Bob

Hello Paul,

Excellent stuff. I too get asked quite often by both students and facuty about the process of buying SAP and the implemnentation procedures and skills that are necessary. This if often because students are interested in identifying which skills they should concentrate on to help boost any consulting careers; however it is also because faculty are of course often undertaking research in MIS implementation. Your links will be invaluable - many thanks.

I have also worked on a slide deck in collaboration with the ELectricity Supply BOard of Ireland and their IT DIrector Michael Fox on their implementation of SAP and I will be making this available on the UAC once a colleague of mine has completed some additional teaching notes. I am also translating the material into Spanish for our Spanish and Latin American colleagues. The slide deck includes an implementation schedule, their reasons for buying, their IT strategy and so on - about 25 slides in all.

The deck should be on the UAC within the month - but in the meantime I'm happy to e-mail a copy to anyone who has a UAC registration.

All the best
