The annual South African Computer Lecturers’ Association (SACLA) conference took place on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2015, held in the Maboneng Precinct, Johannesburg (‘a privately developed urban neighbourhood’), and hosted by University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) Information Systems Department.
This year, the conference’s focus was on renewing ‘ICT teaching and learning’. By improving on the foundations built by past education, SACLA aims to establish a future where these ‘foundations’ can be used in modern ways. This theme was reflected in the event’s venue. The Maboneng Precinct sits in the CBD of Johannesburg. Although many parts of Johannesburg are still in dilapidated or dangerous states, Maboneng is flourishing with business and residential activities
The event was attended by more than sixty professor and lecturers from institutions across Africa. Students from the MIT Global Startup Labs also visited the SAP booth.
At the conference SAP held presentations on the Skills for Africa Programme, SAP UA and SAP Education offerings. The presentations focused on a learning continuum, explaining a Life-Long-Learning (LLL) concept, how students can acquire SAP skills during their studies and after graduation.
