Last October 30th and 31st the first French Innojam took place at the gorgeous region of Sophia Antipolis in the South of France.
More than 30 students and 10 facilitators participated in this hands-on experience regarding development of mobile applications on SAP Business by Design.
The event was hosted by our partner EURECOM, graduate school and research center on communication systems.
The challenges
Our partner UBISTER, Consulting company dedicated to SAP Business ByDesign integration among others; proposed 3 real business cases out of which our participants had to choose one and develop a mobile solution that solved the problem.
The business cases were the following:
A ) Develop a solution that could display in terms of percentage and not hours; the quantity of time worked by an employee compared to the total time he should work per week.
B) Massively Integrate business cards in the data base of Business ByDesign, knowing that the system right now allows only the entry per business card.
C) Export and publish weekly reports automatically. – No need of human intervention for distributing it to colleagues once the report is created in the system.
The Participants
For this SAP Innojam, we invited several schools from the region; but we were lucky to have participants from others regions in France and we even had ONE REMOTE TEAM!! Yes, the “Ecole Supérieur de Commerce de Tunisie - SUP’COM of Tunisia” was present remotely during both days of the Innojam. Our SAP UA team, along with our SAP Labs technology experts were all the time ensuring that our remote team had the sufficient information in order for them to work.
Day 1 – Business Case presentation and Design Thinking Session
In the first day students arrived early for taking breakfast and then they were presented the SAP Innojam concept as well as the business cases they were going to work on.
Students were asked to form groups with people of different skills in order to enhance the diversity of ideas during the Design Thinking Session. Next, they were presented the Design Thinking methodology and they started the innovation process to create a prototype for the chosen business case.
- - Prototype Presentation
By the end of the design thinking process; students were asked to present their prototypes.
This part was very interesting as we could see the creativity and versatility of thinking students have.
They focused mostly on the business card case and even though they chose the same subject the proposed solutions were all different and with their own personality projected.
- - Tech Fire! - Presentation of technologies by SAP Tech Experts
During this part SAP experts presented the SAP technologies that were to be used for the development and coding of their applications.
Day 2 – Application Development and Final Presentations
This day was almost completely dedicated to let students code their previously designed prototypes. This was an exhausting but also amusing part of the Innojam; all students were very concentrated in delivering the final result of their application and hoping to be the best in order to win the contest.
During this time SAP experts were all the time involved on the students projects trying to help them with their technical knowledge.
Project Presentation Time: - Stressful time!!!
The projects shown by the teams were very well presented and solutions were complete and innovative.
We had several types of apps designed and with innovation on different areas. For example; some students oriented their applications to the business point of view, while other focused more on the design and practicality of the application and one of our teams actually managed to have their mobile application up and running on the mobile phone … Amazing!!
It was very hard to choose who should the winner be; specially because students have very nice presentation skills and original applications to propose.
The Winner
The jury was composed by Mr. Hanno KLAUSMEIER (SAP Labs France President), Mr. Jean-Christoph PAZZAGLIA (Security Research Director at SAP Labs France), and Mr.Pierre GUEGUEN (Director of UBISTER Consulting). Together, after instense deliberation; decided who the winner should be.
And the winner is………………….SUP’COM of Tunisia, for proposing the most original and business oriented solutions; after all were evaluating solutions that have a clear business purpose.
Finally, this event showed us that being very far away from the Innojam location and even working remotely is not an excuse for being the best and winning an SAP contest.
Congratulations to SUP’COM of Tunisia! This was a great experience.
